A case against routine computed tomography imaging of the dental alveolus before implant placement

Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2001
Computed tomography (CT) scanning has been used to evaluate the dental alveolus for about 15 years 1-4 and it has become a helpful and accepted practice to gain diagnostic information before placing bone grafts and/or dental implants. Although this technology has proven to be a valuable addition to the diagnostic phase of treatment planning,it is an ...

Simulation of the bone filling of a dental alveolus

open access: closed, 2009
Living materials have a very complex behavior and have been a subject of intense research. Bone tissue is a porous, heterogeneous and generally anisotropic material which adapts its microstructure and mechanical properties in accordance to the mechanical environment.

Histometric evaluation of the healing of the dental alveolus in rats after irradiation with a low-powered GaA1As laser

SPIE Proceedings, 1999
The aim of the present work was to evaluate histometrically the effect of the irradiation with semiconductor diode GaAlAs 790 nm low-powered laser in the chronology of alveolar repair of rats. Lasers of low intensity possesses an eminently analgesic, anti-inflammatory and bioestimulant effect, producing an increase of the local micro-circulation and in

Evaluation of Maxillary Dental Arch Form in Unilateral Clefts of Lip, Alveolus, and Palate from One Month to Four Years

open access: closedThe Cleft Palate Craniofacial Journal, 1993
This study evaluated the early changes of maxillary alveolar arches of operated unilateral cleft lip and palate patients. Dental casts were available at four age increments. Triangular flap cheiloplasty was carried out at an early age. Two-stage palatoplasty by vomer flap and soft palate closure took place later.

Bone Reconstruction of the Maxillary Alveolus for Subsequent Insertion of a Dental Implant in Patients With Cleft Lip and Palate

Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2007
Bone grafting of maxillary alveolus cleft defect followed by insertion of dental implant may be a good alternative to conventional prosthetic treatment. The principle is the formation of stable alveolar crest with a sufficient three-dimensional volume.
