Dental Amalgam and Mercury

Pharmacology & Toxicology, 1992
Abstract: The mercury concentrations in blood (HgB) and urine (HgU) samples, and in exhaled air (HgAir) were measured in 147 individuals from an urban Norwegian population, using cold vapour atomic absorption spectrometry. The study aimed to estimate the mercury exposure from the dental restorations, by correlating the data to the presence of amalgam ...

SAFETY OF DENTAL AMALGAM

Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, 2004
This Critical Appraisal is a departure from our usual format. Usually, contributors review several articles about a specific topic. Instead, we have asked Dr. Osborne to review several topics related to a specific issue, the safety of dental amalgam. Despite the increasing use of tooth‐colored restorative materials, amalgam remains a widely used and ...

Laminate Reinforced Dental Amalgam

Journal of Dental Research, 1972
The flexural strength of amalgam specimens was increased significantly by the application of ductile metal laminates in regions that are subjected to tensile forces and perpendicular to the direction of the applied force. Laminates were silver-tin alloy, pure gold, pure silver, and silver-plated stainless steel.

Creep of dental amalgam

European Journal of Oral Sciences, 1975
abstract— The steady‐state creep rates of dental amalgams were measured and the creep rates were correlated with the microstructure of the amalgams. The influence of manipulation variables on creep rate and microstructure was evaluated. The samples were either mechanically or hand triturated, hand condensed, and stored at 20°C for 7 d.

Copper in dental amalgams

Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 1979
SummaryThe relationship between microstructure and physical and electro‐chemical properties of copper‐containing dental amalgams has been discussed in an attempt to understand the role of copper in currently used dental amalgams.

Dental Amalgam: Reactor Response

Advances in Dental Research, 1988
Dental amalgam continues to be an important restorative material; both fundamental and applied research should be encouraged. The criteria for replacement of amalgam restorations should be re-examined to determine if the integrity of the margins should continue to receive the dominant research interest.
