Susceptibility to dental caries
Australian Dental Journal, 1979Abstract— —The role of the pulp and saliva in caries susceptibility and resistance was evaluated by a combination of endodontic treatment and desalivation. Evidence was presented that the pulp plays a major role in caries susceptibility. Pulpal activity is modified by a hormonal factor or factors of salivary gland origin.

Tuftelin, Mutans Streptococci, and Dental Caries Susceptibility
Journal of Dental Research, 2005The purpose of this study was to identify genetic factors that contribute to dental caries susceptibility, either alone or in combination with environmental factors. Dental examinations were performed and buccal swab samples collected from 3- to 5-year-old children with at least 4 surfaces of decay, or with no evidence of decay. SNP assays for each of

Susceptibility to Dental Caries in the Rat
Journal of Dental Research, 1939It is apparent that several dietary factors cooperate in the production of experimental dental fissure caries in rats. The lesions are due primarily to the ingestion of particles of coarsely ground raw cereal, such as rice or corn, included in the diet from the time of weaning; but other dietary conditions influence the prevalence of caries in ...

Polyamines of Dental Plaque in Caries-resistant vs. Caries-susceptible Adults
Journal of Dental Research, 1985Utilizing a sensitive liquid chromatographic system, polyamines were quantitated in three-day plaque from 13 caries-resistant (CR) and 35 caries-susceptible (CS) adults after they had fasted for 12 hours. The values for putrescine and cadaverine were significantly higher in the CR group.

Individual Susceptibility to Dental Caries: The Vipeholm Study
2022The evidence for a genetic component to dental caries is in comparison much less explored in the literature than the other classically described components of the disease: microbiota and diet. Diet can be said to have been conclusively linked to the etiology of dental caries by the results of the Vipeholm study, which did not deal with any microbial ...

Inherited Risks for Susceptibility to Dental Caries
Journal of Dental Education, 2001Dental caries incidence is affected by host factors that may be related to the structure of dental enamel, immunologic response to cariogenic bacteria, or the composition of saliva. Genetic variation of the host factors may contribute to increased risks for dental caries.

Dental caries in susceptible fissures after prolonged fluoride application
Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology, 1979Abstract A prolonged fluoride application (PFA) method was used to treat susceptible fissures in 210 permanent first molar teeth in 79 children living in a fluoridated community. The development of caries in these fissures was followed for periods ranging from 2 to 4 years.

Common SNPs of AmelogeninX (AMELX) and Dental Caries Susceptibility
Journal of Dental Research, 2013Genetic approaches have shown that several genes could modify caries susceptibility; AmelogeninX ( AMELX) has been repeatedly designated. Here, we hypothesized that AMELX mutations resulting in discrete changes of enamel microstructure may be found in children with a severe caries phenotype.

Host proteins in dental plaques of caries-resistant versus caries-susceptible human groups
Archives of Oral Biology, 1984The level of host proteins in 3-day supragingival plaque extracts was compared in caries-resistant (CR) and caries-susceptible (CS) adults with little or no gingival inflammation to minimize the contribution of gingival crevicular fluid ( GCF ). Except for IgA, all the host proteins examined were present at similar levels in both groups of subjects ...
