Radiation dose and protection in dentistry

open access: yesJapanese Dental Science Review, 2010
Radiographic examinations play an essential part of dental practice. Because a certain amount of radiation is inevitably delivered to patients, it should be as low as reasonably achievable. The purposes of this article are to review the definition of the

A new method for the automated alignment of dental radiographs for digital subtraction radiography

open access: yesDentomaxillofacial Radiology, 2000
OBJECTIVES To provide a robust and convenient method by which radiographic images can be spatially aligned for digital radiographic subtraction without the use of manually selected reference points. METHODS An automated method for image alignment is described which begins with the extraction of a large number of edge features (1500 or more pixels ...

Radiographic assessment of peri-implant bone level: A comparative study of digital intraoral and digital panoramic radiography [PDF]

open access: yesStomatološki glasnik Srbije, 2015
Introduction The objective of this study was to compare two radiographic methods - digital intraoral and digital panoramic radiography in assessing marginal bone level around dental implants.

Detection of Carious Lesions and Restorations Using Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dentistry, 2016
Background/Purpose. In terms of the detection of tooth diagnosis, no intelligent detection has been done up till now. Dentists just look at images and then they can detect the diagnosis position in tooth based on their experiences. Using new technologies,

Characterization of Metal Artifacts in X-ray Computed Tomography [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Metal streak artifacts in X-ray computerized tomography (CT) are rigorously characterized here using the notion of the wavefront set from microlocal analysis. The metal artifacts are caused mainly from the mismatch of the forward model of the filtered back-projection; the presence of metallic subjects in an imaging subject violates the model's ...

MTF Optimization in Digital Dental X-ray Systems [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering, Sydney, Australia (2003), 1727-1983, 2006
In this work, we have studied the MTF optimisation relative to the detector aperture of four digital dental X-ray image systems: 1) Digora and Denoptix systems, based on PSPL detectors; 2) CDR and Sens-A-Ray 2000, based on CCD detectors. The MTF was evaluated by ERF method and linearized as a Gaussian process.

Combined Effect of Abutment Height and Restoration Emergence Angle on Peri‐Implant Bone Loss Progression: A Retrospective Analysis

open access: yesClinical Oral Implants Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction This study aimed to investigate the combined effect of trans‐mucosal abutment height (TmAH) and restorative emergence angle (REA) on marginal bone loss (MBL) around bone‐level implants. Methods Implant radiographs 12–18 months after crown placement (T0) and at least one year later (T1) were retrospectively analyzed.
