Dental Bleaching, Microabrasion, and Resin Infiltration: Case Report of Minimally Invasive Treatment of Enamel Hypoplasia

Enamel hypoplasia occurs because of a defect in formation of the organic matrix during the development of tooth enamel. Minimally invasive procedures of the slightly altered enamel contribute to a greater longevity of teeth and prevent them from relapsing into the repetitive restorative cycle.

The uptake of serum albumin by maturation-stage rodent enamel and the resulting effects on the growth of enamel crystallites were investigated in vitro. Albumin uptake was demonstrated by means of gel electrophoresis and confirmed by Western blotting with use of monoclonal antibodies.

AbstractThe dentition of 27 enslaved African Americans from archaeological sites in Maryland and Virginia were examined. All 17 males and 7 of the 10 females in this study exhibited enamel hypoplastic defects indicative of systemic nutritional and disease stresses interfering with amelogenesis.
