Survey of dental health of the naval recruit I. Status of dental health
The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1959A study of 2,027 naval recruits was undertaken to determine the dental condition of naval recruits and the factors that may have influenced this prior to entrance into the Navy. The average DMF rate was 13.9. The average recruit had 2.4 missing teeth. The mean number of carious teeth was 7.2. Only 20.8 per cent of the recruits were free from gingivitis.
