The development of a new dental probe and a new plaque index.

A curved periodontal probe has been developed to measure the length of newly formed plaque along the gingival margin of a tooth and the length of the entire gingival margin of the tooth. Plaque is expressed as a percent of the tooth's gingival margin, and is defined as the Modified Gingival Margin Plaque Index (MGMPI).

A COMPARISON OF TWO ORAL HYGIENE INDEXES FOR MEASURING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DENTAL FLOSS IN PLAQUE REMOVAL

The purpose of the present study was to compare the OHI-S and the two versions of PHP Index in measuring the effectiveness of dental floss in the removal of dental plaque. The study demonstrated that the PHP Index provides a higher sensitivity than the OHI-S in measuring the effectiveness of approximal cleansing aids, such as dental floss.

Correlation between calculus index and acid and alkaline pyrophosphatases activities of dental plaque and saliva.

The activities of acid and alkaline pyrophosphatases were measured in human plaque of thirty subjects and saliva of twenty-two subjects. A study of correlation and analysis of variance were done between the pyrophosphatasic activity and the calculus index. A significant positive relationship has been established.
