The endurance limit of dental porcelain* [PDF]

open access: possibleAustralian Dental Journal, 1974
Abstract— Dental porcelain is subject to static fatigue and has an endurance limit to stress. There is great variation to subdestructive loading above that limit. Its reliability necessitates stress be kept below that limit but chemical treatment can raise the endurance limit.

Fluorescence of dental porcelain

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1993
This study of the fluorescence of natural enamel and of dental ceramics shows the fluorescence of ceramics not containing rare earths decreases when the color saturation increases; the fluorescence of samples of the same shade guide are not homogenous; some guides show a strong green fluorescence; and two shade guides of the same origin can present ...

Mica leucite dental porcelain [PDF]

open access: possibleBritish Ceramic Transactions, 2001
AbstractThree formulations of fluorophlogopite and orthoclase (4 : 1, 1 : 1, and 1 : 4 molar mixes, based on the stoichiometric composition) were prepared utilising local potash feldspar, as the main constituent for dental porcelain containing leucite and fluorophlogopite. Powders of the fritted batches were heat treated for 2 h at between 950 and 1050°

Surface finishing of dental porcelain

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1981
Abstract A technique is presented to polish a porcelain surface whose natural glaze has been broken by grinding. The technique involves the use of a hard rubber wheel, fine wet pumice, and wet tin oxide. A comparison of the polished and naturally glazed porcelain surfaces of vacuum-fired porcelain appear similar both clinically and under an SEM.

Luminescence Spectra of Dental Porcelains

Journal of Dental Research, 1978
The luminescence spectra were obtained for a series of porcelain teeth and powders currently used in this country. Comparison was made between the spectra of these materials and the spectra of plastic teeth and natural tooth structures. It was found that many of the porcelain teeth and powders have strikingly different luminescence characteristics ...

Effect of silica coating on the bond strength of milled pure titanium to dental porcelain.

European Journal of Oral Sciences, 2016
The creation of a high bond strength between machined computer-manufactured pure titanium and porcelain remains problematic, and the effects of a silica coating on the bond strength of milled pure titanium bonded to dental porcelain require further ...

Evaluation of an experimental dental porcelain

Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, 2010
The aim of this study was to evaluate fracture toughness, hardness, ceramic/metal bond strength and microstructure of experimental dental porcelain and compare it with commercial type. Specimens of specific dimensions were prepared. Fracture toughness was assessed by a three-point bending test.

Improvement in dental porcelain bonding to milled, noncast titanium surfaces by gold sputter coating.

Journal of Prosthodontics, 2014
PURPOSE This study evaluated the adherence of dental porcelain to a milled, noncast titanium (Ti) surface with a gold sputter coating to evaluate a possible new practical surface treatment for enhancing the bond strength between Ti and porcelain ...

The effect of abrasive blasting on the strength of a joint between dental porcelain and metal base.

Acta of Bioengineering and Biomechanics, 2014
This paper presents the effect of selected parameters of abrasive blasting on the strength of a joint between dental porcelain and metal base. Experiments were conducted for different grain sizes of abrasive material and different blasting angles, with a
