Granulocyte and Monocyte Adsorption Therapy in Patients With Sepsis: A Feasibility Study

open access: yesArtificial Organs, Volume 49, Issue 5, Page 852-863, May 2025.
The median SOFA score decreased from 10 to 4 after 7 days. Decreased circulatory and renal SOFA scores were characteristic. Granulocytes, mainly neutrophils, were adsorbed, and the neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio significantly improved. The median APACHE II score was 27, and the 28‐day mortality rate was 7.8%.

Isogenic Transplantation of Hybrid Artificial Pleural Tissue Consisting of Rat Cells and Polyglycolic Acid Nanofiber Sheet Induces Restoration of Mesothelial Defects in Rat Model

open access: yesArtificial Organs, Volume 49, Issue 5, Page 778-789, May 2025.
We have successfully constructed hybrid 3D tissue using mesothelial cells, fibronectin‐gelatin nanofilm‐coated fibroblasts, and collagen‐coated PGA nanofiber sheets to create artificial pleura, and achieved successful isogenic engraftment in a rat model of pleural defects. ABSTRACT Background Impairment of the visceral pleura following thoracic surgery

D‐amino acid oxidase as a chemogenetic tool for spatiotemporally controlled hydrogen peroxide production: The oxygen connection

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose D‐amino acid oxidase (DAO) has been developed as a chemogenetic tool, to precisely manipulate redox levels in tissues and cells by generating H2O2 in the presence of D‐amino acids. The enzyme's significant oxygen consumption during H2O2 production may influence cellular oxygen levels.

Using Propensity Score Subclassification to Estimate the Population‐Average Causal Effect of Temporomandibular Dysfunction Experience on Oral Health‐Related Quality of Life Among Australian Adults

open access: yesCommunity Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology, Volume 53, Issue 3, Page 265-277, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) experience might impair oral health‐related quality of life (OHRQoL). Causal inference using population‐based cross‐sectional data is challenging given the potential for bias. Propensity Score Subclassification (PS‐Subclassification) provides a tool to mitigate confounding bias.

Oral Health Promotion Interventions in Residential Aged Care Facilities – A Systematic Review of Behaviour Change Techniques Used in Interventions

open access: yesCommunity Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The oral health status of older people living in residential aged care facilities (RACFs) is found to be very poor. Many oral health promotion interventions have been tested in RACF settings around the world with varying degrees of success.

Bone Substitute Material in the Surgical Therapy of Peri‐Implantitis—3‐Year Outcomes of a Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesClinical Oral Implants Research, Volume 36, Issue 4, Page 436-448, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the potential mid‐term benefit of the use of a bone substitute material in the reconstructive surgical treatment of peri‐implantitis. Methods A total of 120 subjects (127 implants) affected by peri‐implantitis were followed over 3 years in a multicenter randomized clinical trial. Participants had been randomized to either

Salivary bacterial leakage into implant-abutment connections: preliminary results of an in vitro study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
OBJECTIVE: The occurrence of bacterial leakage in the internal surface of implants, through implant-abutment interface (IAI), is one of the parameters for analyzing the fabrication quality of the connections. The aim of this in vitro study is to evaluate
