Rod‐shaped Polymerized Salicylic Acid Particles Modulate Neutrophil Transendothelial Migration in Acute Inflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Rod‐shaped particles outperform spherical particles of the same volume in preventing neutrophil infiltration to inflamed areas, both in vitro and in vivo. This therapeutic effectiveness is attributed to better cell targeting and decreased cell motility, resulting from the geometry‐driven phagocytosis and inhibited actin polymerization.

Pyrophosphate‐Containing Calcium Phosphates Negatively Impact Heterotopic Bone Quality

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The role of calcium pyrophosphate (Ca‐PP) in heterotopic bone formation and material degradation is investigated using calcium phosphate (CaP) compositions with varying Ca‐PP content. Results show that Ca‐PP does not impede heterotopic bone formation, minimally affects CaP degradation at non‐osseous sites, and increases phagocytosis.

Preclinical competency in scaling/root planing: comparing dental and dental hygiene student’s outcomes

open access: yesSWISS DENTAL JOURNAL SSO – Science and Clinical Topics, 2019
Dental students in Zurich receive 8.5 hours of preclinical training in scaling/root planing. Dental hygiene students receive a multiple of this amount. This study was undertaken to assess the students’ acquired preclinical competencies and to what degree they may differ.

The Surgical Dental Anxiety Scale (SDAS)

open access: yesBritish Dental Journal
AbstractDental anxiety is a prevalent issue in society and national surveys show it to be rising. As a result, strain on sedation services continues to grow. To accommodate this, there is a need to streamline services to ensure that patients who have a clinical need for sedation are able to receive it.The Index of Sedation Need (IOSN) has been ...
