Dental wear, wear rate, and dental disease in the African apes
American Journal of Primatology, 2010AbstractThe African apes possess thinner enamel than do other hominoids, and a certain amount of dentin exposure may be advantageous in the processing of tough diets eaten byGorilla. Dental wear (attrition plus abrasion) that erodes the enamel exposes the underlying dentin and creates additional cutting edges at the dentin‐enamel junction ...

Fatigue and wear of dental materials
Journal of Dentistry, 1990Fatigue and wear are two of the many basic physical processes which contribute to the degradation of restorative materials. The mechanisms of these are discussed in the context of general engineering and the dental environment. More work is required to define the processes involved in intraoral degradation of materials.

Chemical Softening and Wear of Dental Composites
Journal of Dental Research, 1985The purpose of this work was to determine the influence of chemical food-simulating liquids on the wear of various commercial dental composite restoratives. In many cases, pre-conditioning the restoratives in these liquids for one week produced swelling of the polymer matrix and considerable surface damage.
