Evaluation of the Influence of Scanning Pattern and Scanning Technology on the Trueness and Precision of the Denture Reference Technique

open access: yesJournal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, Volume 38, Issue 7, Page 1407-1415, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose The present study investigated the combined influence of four different scanning patterns and two intraoral scanning (IOS) technologies (Confocal Ultrafast Optical Sectioning vs. Active Triangulation with Structured Light) on the trueness and precision of both the intaglio and cameo surfaces of a maxillary reference denture.

The Intellectual Disability Frailty Index Predicts 10‐Year Mortality Within the HA‐ID Cohort

open access: yesJournal of Intellectual Disability Research, Volume 70, Issue 7, Page 725-733, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Adults with intellectual disability (ID) experience frailty up to 20 years earlier than the general population, potentially increasing their risk of age‐related comorbidities and mortality at a younger age. This study investigates the relationship between frailty, assessed with the Intellectual Disability Frailty Index (ID‐FI) and ...

Mapping the murine TMJ glenoid fossa over development, homeostasis and in response to disease

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 249, Issue 1, Page 85-96, July 2026.
The fibrocartilage of the murine glenoid fossa and condyle of the temporomandibular joint are shown to form at distinct times with distinct molecular identities. Changes in the condyle during disease lead to remodelling of the fossa to maintain joint alignment.

Harnessing Cellular Feeling: Epigenetic to Mechanical Memory as a Framework for Stem Cell Manufacturing

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, Volume 123, Issue 6, Page 1481-1490, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Stem cell‐based therapies hold transformative potential for regenerative medicine, yet their progress is constrained by persistent variability in manufacturing and clinical performance. Conventional frameworks such as Quality by Design (QbD), though effective for drugs and biologics, struggle to accommodate the dynamic nature of living cell ...

Beyond mammals: the evolution of chewing and other forms of oropharyngeal food processing in vertebrates

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 3, Page 1406-1462, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Oropharyngeal food processing exhibits a remarkable diversity among vertebrates, reflecting the evolution of specialised ‘processing centres’ associated with the mandibular, hyoid, and branchial arches. Although studies have detailed various food‐processing strategies and mechanisms across vertebrates, a coherent and comprehensive terminology ...
