The effects of a multi-step dentin bonding system on dentin permeability

Dental Materials, 1988
Abstract Composite resin was bonded to dentin of crown segments using the multi-step Bowen bonding method. The permeability of the crown segments was measured before and after each step of the procedure to determine their effects on dentin permeability. Treatment of dentin smear layers with ferric oxalate alone reduced dentin permeability by 65%. The

Effects of two disinfection/sterilization methods for dentin specimens on dentin permeability

Clinical Oral Investigations, 2018
To investigate the effects of two disinfection/sterilization methods on the permeability of dentin specimens.Forty intact human third molars were freshly extracted and cut, close to the pulp chamber, into dentin disks with a 500-μm thickness. The disks were randomized (n = 20 each) into a 70% ethanol group (acid-etched dentin disks soaked in 70 ...

Dentine permeability and dentine adhesion

Journal of Dentistry, 1997
The objectives of this paper are to review the structure of dentine as it pertains to adhesive bonding and to describe the importance of resin permeation into dentinal tubules and into spaces created between collagen fibrils by acid-etching during resin bonding.

Dentine permeability and tracer tests

Journal of Dentistry, 1999
This paper reviews the evidence for dentine's permeability in order to clarify and emphasize its confounding effect on leakage test measurements, and hence the need to use special test designs to avoid its effects. The literature on the subject between 1887 and 1997, including 249 articles. The prerequisite condition for any tracer penetration test is ...

Permeability of demineralized dentin to HEMA

Dental Materials, 2000
The objectives of this study were to develop a macromodel of the demineralized layer of dentin that is formed after acid-etching, and to determine if the amount of HEMA uptake was responsive to air drying. The hypothesis that was tested was that HEMA uptake by demineralized dentin depends upon the degree of expansion of the collagen fibril network ...

The relationship between dentin bond strengths and dentin permeability

Dental Materials, 1989
The relationship between dentin permeability and the shear bond strength of Scotchbond/Silux was investigated. In the presence of a smear layer, there was no correlation between dentin permeability and dentin bond strengths. After removal of the smear layer with acids, there was an inverse relationship between dentin permeability and dentin bond ...

Dentin permeability of carious primary teeth

Nigerian Journal of Clinical Practice, 2017
Many in vitro studies have used dentine permeability to evaluate the efficacy of various restorative and preventative procedures. The easiest way to evaluate dentine permeability is to calculate its hydraulic conductance (Lp) using fluid filtration methods.

Effect of Dycal® on dentin permeability

Dental Traumatology, 1988
Abstract The ability of 3 formulations of a hard‐setting calcium hydroxide‐containng base material (Dycal®) to seal dentinal tubules was evaluated in an in vitro model. The latest light‐cured generation of the material was clearly superior to the previous formulations at all time periods tested.

The permeability of artificial dentine carious lesions

Archives of Oral Biology, 2008
This study aimed to verify whether two demineralisation solutions, with different fluoride concentrations, would produce subsurface lesions in dentine, as assessed by microradiography, with different mineral loss profiles and, subsequently, to determine the dentine permeability of the two altered tissues.Forty-five human coronal portions were prepared ...

The Effect of Rotary Instrumentation on the Permeability of Dentin

Journal of Dental Research, 1981
The filtration and diffusion of tritiated water through dentin disks were measured in a split-chamber diffusion cell. The dentin had been cut with a diamond disk and the surfaces modified with a carbide fissure bur or diamond bur. Disks were given a secondary burnishing treatment with a blank bur or a modified blank bur.
