Lagomorph cranial biomechanics and the functional significance of the unique fenestrated rostrum of leporids

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The crania of leporid lagomorphs are uniquely fenestrated, including the posterior cranial bones and the lateral portion of the maxilla. The functional significance of the highly fenestrated rostrum has received considerably little attention, despite being absent in other mammalian herbivores with a long rostrum.

In‐vitro puncture experiment using alligator teeth tracks the formation of dental microwear and its association with hardness of the diet

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract With the development of dental microwear texture analysis (DMTA), there has been an increasing application of DMTA for dietary estimation in extant and fossil reptiles, including dinosaurs. While numerous feeding experiments exist for herbivorous mammals, knowledge remains limited for carnivorous reptiles. This study aimed to qualitatively and

An odontological analysis of 18th and 19th century burial sites from in and around Cape Town

open access: yes, 2007
Includes abstract.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 138-157).The development of the city of Cape Town in the last 20 years has led to the discovery of burial sites 110t sufficiently documented in the city's archival records. Human remains under

Inter‐microscope comparability of dental microwear texture data obtained from different optical profilometers: Part II Deriving instrument‐specific correction equations for meta‐analyses using published data

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Dental microwear texture analysis (DMTA) has emerged as a valuable method for investigating the feeding ecology of vertebrates. Over the past decade, three‐dimensional topographic data from microscopic regions of tooth surfaces have been collected, and surface texture parameters have been published for both extant and fossil species.

Traumatic injuries in primary dentition

open access: yes, 2017
The dissertation examines the topic of traumatic injuries in the primary dentition, their epidemiology, consequences and treatments. By collecting a wide range of data from books, journals and online resources it highlights that trauma to the primary ...

Comparative and functional anatomy of masticatory muscles and bite force in opossums (Didelphimorphia, Didelphidae)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
We describe the functional anatomy of masticatory muscles in nine opossums, finding a generalized anatomical pattern with differences related to skull morphology. Variation in quantitative myological data and estimated bite force was mostly related to size, and the increase in bite force supports dietary diversification associated with size increase ...

Longitudinale Chronologie der zweiten Dentition.

open access: yes, 1972
Autor je na temelju potrebnih elemenata izradio kronologiju druge denticije, koju je nazvao »longitudinalna kronologija«. Za fazu rasta zuba koja dolazi poslije erupcije uvodi termin dent'iciranost.

The relationship between form and function of the carnivore mandible

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Dietary morphology diversified extensively in Carnivoraformes (living Carnivora and their stem relatives) during the Cenozoic (the last 66 million years) as they evolved to capture, handle, and process new animal and plant diets. We used 3D geometric morphometrics, mechanical advantage, and finite element analysis to test the evolutionary ...

EVALUATION OF MALOCCLUSIONS IN PRIMARY DENTITION

open access: yes, 2007
It is a known fact that the primary teeth have a significant effect on the development of the permanent occlusion. Malocclusions can be detected early in the primary dentition and if they are left untreated they may be transferred to the permanent ...
