The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1974lh’ is article presents an approach which utilizes the last few teeth remaining in a ravaged dentition. We are attempting to transfer some of the occlusal forces from an overlay denture through the periodontal ligament to the bone and, at the same time, provide a reasonable amount of retention for the overlay denture.

The Stud Attachment Overlay Denture and Proprioception
The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1971A procedure for fabricating stud attachments for use on mandibular teeth has been developed. The retention of two or more isolated mandibular roots for use with an overlay denture will preserve tooth proprioception, which is one of the major determinants of masticatory function.
