The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1996Since people began using denture adhesives more than 200 years ago, dentists have been slow to acknowledge their place in prosthetic dentistry. The author maintains that if properly used, denture adhesives can be an asset to the dentist's armamentarium.

The Effect of Dentures and Denture Adhesives on Mouth Alcohol Retention
Journal of Forensic Sciences, 1992Abstract A total of 24 alcohol-free, denture-wearing subjects were tested for mouth-alcohol retention times with an Intoxilyzer™ 5000. The subjects were given 30 mL doses of 80 proof brandy to swish in their mouths without swallowing for 2 min prior to expectorating the dose.

Denture adhesives: a side effect
Journal of Dentistry, 1980Abstract An in vitro experiment was performed to demonstrate whether a denture adhesive containing Karaya gum could decalcify dental enamel. Decalcification was estimated by means of microindentation hardness tests. To enhance visibility the specimens examined were gold plated before the indentations were measured.

A clinical evaluation of denture adhesives
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1967Abstract Five hundred and seventy-six masticatory performance tests, and four hundred and eighty taste tests were conducted on twenty-four subjects in order to determine and compare the effect of the use of three denture adhesives on denture retention, on the masticatory ability of denture wearers, and on their taste thresholds.
