Deontic logic without deontic operators

Theory and Decision, 1971
The usual axioms and inference rules of deontic logic employ as a new primitive term an operator for ‘obligatory’ or for ‘permitted’. These axioms and inference rules are here derived from a language which instead of the operator contains a predicate ‘admissible’ defined on the set of state descriptions of an assertoric language.

Deontic Action Programs

1999
We introduce the concept of an Action Policy in the context of databases. Intuitively, such a policy tells us which from a collection of actions must be executed (i.e. are obligatory), which are forbidden from being executed, and which are permitted (but not obligatory) given a state of the database.

Deontic logic programs

International Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems, 2013
Deontic logic programming (DLP) is a framework combining deontic logic and non-monotonic logic programming, and it is useful to represent and reason about normative systems. In this paper we propose an implementation for reasoning in DLP that combines, in a modular way, a reasoner for deontic logic with a reasoner for stable model semantics.

Relevant deontic logic

Journal of Philosophical Logic, 1992
Novel conditions of relevance are defined for conditionals in order to weed out some of the deontic paradoxes, such as Ross's paradox. Semantically, first-degree positive relevant entailment is defined in terms of fulfilment conditions, which are sets of sets of literals (atomic sentences or their negations).

Bureaucracies as deontic systems

ACM Transactions on Information Systems, 1988
Bureaucratic offices are not only for clerical work, but more important, they are for officiating in the sense of issuing directives, granting permissions, enforcing prohibitions, waiving obligations, and so forth. Bureaucracies are thus deontic systems for organizational and social control. Conventional information

Deontics at bedtime

Research on Children and Social Interaction, 2021

ITERATED DEONTIC MODALITIES

Mind, 1966
Abstract In this paper, a confusion between evaluative and prescriptive uses of “ought” is located, and the prescriptive use of deontic operators is then recommended.
