Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Gas flowmeter [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Mass flowmeter measures rates of flow of all common gases from purges and collected leaks at leak ports. Without dependence on gravity, it measures rates between 5 and 650 cc/min with pressures ranging from 0.001 to 10 to the minus thirteenth torr at ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Development and validation of dependence and craving measures specific to athletes who use anabolic-androgenic steroids

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology
BackgroundAnabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) dependence affects approximately 30% of people who use AAS. Presently, measures to assess and diagnose AAS dependence are adapted from scales specific to other forms of drug misuse (e.g., alcohol), containing ...

Rearranged dependence measures

open access: yesBernoulli
Most of the popular dependence measures for two random variables $X$ and $Y$ (such as Pearson's and Spearman's correlation, Kendall's $τ$ and Gini's $γ$) vanish whenever $X$ and $Y$ are independent. However, neither does a vanishing dependence measure necessarily imply independence, nor does a measure equal to 1 imply that one variable is a measurable ...

Multivariate measures of positive dependence [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper a set of desirable properties for measures of positive dependence of ordered n-tuples of continuous random variables (n >= 2) is proposed and a class of multivariate positive dependence measures is introduced. We consider the comonotonicity

Comparison of two nicotine dependence measures for use with Korean American Women: The FTND and AUTOS

open access: yes, 2017
This study compares psychometric properties of the Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND) and Autonomy over Tobacco Scale (AUTOS), which are measures of nicotine dependence.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Assessing Asymptotic Tail Independence: A Simulation Study

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings
The occurrence of extreme values in one variable can trigger the same in other variables, making it necessary to assess the risk of contagion. The usual dependence measures based on the central part of the data typically fail to assess extreme dependence.

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...
