Clause Linking and Dependent Clauses
1992Abstract Clause linking in Manambu is achieved using a variety of means. The major strategy is ‘clause chaining’ via medial dependent clauses which in most cases involves switch-reference marking. Other clause-linking devices are considered in Chapter 19.

Other Dependent Clauses and Further Features of Clause Linking
1992Abstract We will now discuss clause-linking devices other than clause chaining via medial dependent clauses (see Aikhenvald forthcoming g, on their semantics). These include: juxtaposition of a dependent clause and a main clause (§19.1); relative clauses (§19.2); clause linking via a case marker ‘instead’ and a suffix ‘like’ (§19.3 ...

Functional dependencies in Horn clause queries
ACM Transactions on Database Systems, 1991When a database query is expressed as a set of Horn clauses whose execution is by top-down resolution of goals, there is a need to improve the backtracking behavior of the interpreter. Rather than putting on the programmer the onus of using extra-logical operators such as cut to improve performance, we show that ...

Horn clauses and database dependencies
Journal of the ACM, 1982Certain first-order sentences, called "dependencies," about relations in a database are defined and studied. These dependencies seem to include all prewously defined dependencies as special cases A new concept is mtroduced, called "faithfulness (with respect to direct product)," which enables powerful results to be proved about the existence of ...

FORCE MAJEURE CLAUSES—HOW DEPENDABLE ARE THEY?
The APPEA Journal, 2000Force Majeure clauses are becoming increasingly important to the energy industry. With the privatisation of downstream energy participants and removal of statutory immunities from liability, downstream participants are more likely to seek recourse from upstream parties where there is a failure in supply.

Dependency parsing of Japanese monologue using clause boundaries
Language Resources and Evaluation, 2007Spoken monologues feature greater sentence length and structural complexity than spoken dialogues. To achieve high-parsing performance for spoken monologues, simplifying the structure by dividing a sentence into suitable language units could prove effective.

Horn clauses and database dependencies (Extended Abstract)
Proceedings of the twelfth annual ACM symposium on Theory of computing - STOC '80, 1980In the last year or so, a number of generalizations of these dependencies have appeared: Nicolas's mutual dependencies [Ni], which say that a relation is the join of three of its projections; Rissanen's and Aho, Beeri, and Ullman's join dependencies ([Ri], [ABU]), which generalize further to an arbitrary number of projections; Paradaens' transitive ...

A Hybrid Method to Determine Inter-Clause Dependency
International Journal of Computer Processing of Languages, 2006The longer the input sentences, the worse the syntactic parsing results. Therefore, a long sentence is first divided into several clauses, and the syntactic analysis for each clause is performed. Finally, all the analysis results are merged into one. In the merging process, it is difficult to determine the dependency among clauses.

Dependency Analysis of Clauses Using Parse Tree Kernels
2007Identification of dependency relation among clauses is one of the most critical parts in parsing Korean sentences because it generates severe ambiguities. The resolution of the ambiguities involves both syntactic and semantic information. This paper proposes a method to determine the dependency relation among Korean clauses using parse tree kernels ...
