Taurine depletion, a novel mechanism for cardioprotection from regional ischemia
American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1997Three processes that have been implicated in ischemic injury are impaired Ca2+movement, altered osmoregulation, and membrane remodeling. Because the amino acid, taurine, affects all three processes, it seemed logical that changes in the myocardial content of taurine might affect ischemic injury.

Meta-analysis of depleted uranium levels in the Balkan region
Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2017In recent years, contradicting data has been published on the connection between the presence of depleted uranium and an increased cancer incidence among military personnel deployed in the Balkans during the 1992-1999 wars. This has led to numerous research articles investigating possible depleted uranium contamination of the afflicted regions of the ...

The Impact of Depletion Region Potential Modulation on Ion-Induced Current Transient Response
IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 2013Transient capture measurements on an irradiated diode show the effect of increasing ion LET and varying strike location on transient current response. Significant modulation of the electrostatic potential in the device depletion region during and after ...

REGIONAL MANAGEMENT OF DEPLETED AQUIFERS1
JAWRA Journal of the American Water Resources Association, 1987ABSTRACT: Aquifers with pressure head seriously reduced by overdrafting are referred to as depleted. In coastal areas they may be invaded by saltwater. An obvious remedy is to reduce the rate of withdrawal to the permanently available dependable yield.

Oxygen Depleted Regions by the Theory of Krogh
Proceedings of the IEEE 32nd Annual Northeast Bioengineering Conference, 2006Oxygen depleted regions in the tissue of Krogh in cartesian coordinates is derived. Simultaneous diffusion and reaction is considered and the concentration profile solved for. Michaelis-Menten kinetics is supposed for the reaction rate. The critical distance in the tissue, less than the length of the tissue, is given by a quadratic equation.

Evidence for nucleosome depletion at active regulatory regions genome-wide
Nature Genetics, 2004The identification of nuclease-hypersensitive sites in an active globin gene and in the 5' regions of fruit fly heat shock genes first suggested that chromatin changes accompany gene regulation in vivo. Here we present evidence that the basic repeating units of eukaryotic chromatin, nucleosomes, are depleted from active regulatory elements throughout ...

We demonstrate a high-current back-illuminated InGaAs/InP p-i-n photodiode (PD), whose depleted region comprises partially depleted-absorbing, depleted-absorbing, and depleted-nonabsorbing layers to increase RF power output. The back-illuminated PD has an advantage of small thermal resistance between a photoabsorber and a heat sink for avoiding ...

Peculiarity of Depletion Region in Diamond pn-Junction
Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2003Ionized dopant and carrier profiles in the pn-junction of diamond with a deep phosphorus donor and a boron acceptor are theoretically analyzed by simply solving a one-dimensional Poisson equation. The width of the depletion layer is around two times larger than that of the space-charge layer since there exists a transition region at the depletion layer

Geometry of depleted plasma regions in the equatorial ionosphere
Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1983An image intensified, all‐sky, 6300‐Å airglow imaging system operating on Ascension Island is early 1981 has been used to assemble a photographic data base of several hundred airglow depletion patterns. By mapping the airglow depletion features along geomagnetic field lines to the equatorial plane, the geometrical characteristics of plasma depleted ...
