Depolymerization of Vinyl Polymers

ACS Macro Letters
Depolymerization is a promising approach to reduce plastic waste by regenerating monomers from polymers, presenting a compelling solution to maintain a circular polymer economy. However, vinyl polymers with all-carbon backbones are especially difficult to depolymerize due to significant thermodynamic and kinetic barriers.

Microtubule-depolymerizing kinesins

Current Opinion in Cell Biology, 2005
The fact that some kinesin-related proteins can destabilize microtubules is now a well-established fact. However, the contribution that these kinesins make to cellular function is just coming into focus. Key structural and kinetic studies on the mechanism of microtubule depolymerization by these kinesins have provided a framework for understanding ...

Depolymerization of waste poly(methyl methacrylate) scraps and purification of depolymerized products

Journal of Environmental Management, 2019
A big challenge for the civilization in energy saving/waste management can be "the regeneration of monomers from the waste plastics followed by their re-polymerization" using an ideal recycling method. Herein, we investigate the thermal depolymerization of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) using thermogravimetric analysis coupled with mass spectrometry (

Cellulose: To depolymerize… or not to?

Biotechnology Advances, 2017
Oxidation of the primary OH groups in cellulose is a pivotal reaction both at lab and industrial scale, leading to the value-added products, i.e. oxidized cellulose which have tremendous applications in medicine, pharmacy and hi-tech industry. Moreover, the introduction of carboxyl moieties creates prerequisites for further cellulose functionalization ...

Lignin-depolymerizing activity of Streptomyces

1988
Publisher Summary This chapter describes a simple spectrophotometric assay for monitoring Streptomyces -mediated solubilization of lignin when cultures are degrading lignocellulosic substrates in submerged cultures or in solid-state fermentations. The chapter also describes a simplified lignin acidolysis procedure that is important for chemically ...

Microwave-Assisted Depolymerization of Polymethacrylates

ACS Macro Letters
Advancing sustainability in the polymer industry requires efficient, ecofriendly recycling strategies. This study introduces a catalyst-free, microwave-assisted depolymerization method for RAFT-terminated polymethacrylates, utilizing methanol as a dual-functional cosolvent to enhance microwave absorption and provide a benign reaction medium.
