What contributes to depression in Parkinson's disease? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Background: Depression is a common problem in patients with Parkinson's disease, but its mechanism is poorly understood. It is thought that neurochemical changes contribute to its occurrence, but it is unclear why some patients develop depression and ...

Toward Perception‐Native Electronic Skin: Bio‐Inspired In‐/Near‐Sensor and Neuromorphic Computing for Humanoid Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Dense tactile streams from across the humanoid body converge on collide in a central wiring and data bottleneck. By relocating computation closer to and then into the skin itself, near‐ and in‐sensor architectures, together with neuromorphic computing, chart a path toward perception‐native electronic skin, in which the conversion of stimulus into ...

Review study on antidepressant effects of medicinal plants with emphasis on mechanisms of influence

open access: yesJournal of Medicinal Plants, 2016
Background and Objectives: Depression is a serious, debilitating and common illness among various social groups. Chemical and synthetic drugs available for the disease have numerous side effects and only 50% result in full recovery.

Two‐Step Thermal Upcycling of Flexible Printed Circuit Board Waste Into Metallic Copper Nanoparticles: Synthesis and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A two‐step thermal upcycling process converts flexible printed circuit board waste into high‐purity copper nanoparticles using polymer degradation and arc discharge. The synthesized nanoparticles exhibit controlled morphology and high metal purity.

Pointlike Material Accumulation and Displacement in Azopolymer Thin Films Driven by Spatial Light Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A maskless, SLM‐driven approach enables the deterministic inscription of arbitrary topographical features in azopolymer films by mapping complex vectorial light fields onto local viscoplastic stress. This platform allows for the rapid generation and dynamic erasure of high‐aspect‐ratio micro‐spikes, offering a versatile tool for reconfigurable flat ...

Disrupted TFEB/GDNF–cAMP/ATP Coupling Underlies Astrocytic Dysfunction and Depression in LRRK2 G2019S Parkinson's Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The LRRK2 G2019S mutation, a Parkinson's disease–linked variant, has been associated with depression‐like phenotypes, but mechanisms remain unclear. We chart age‐dependent behavioral changes and astrocyte reactivity in G2019S mice and define a pathway connecting LRRK2 to TFEB/GDNF signaling, cellular energetics, and inflammation.

The Mind From Within: Visceral Roots of Human Cognition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The physiological activity of visceral organs, such as the heart, the lungs, and the gut, is surprisingly linked to many sophisticated mental operations, such as remembering the past, being aware of ourselves, making choices, and forging social bonds.

Smart Nanotechnologies for Multimodal Neuromodulation and Brain Interfacing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Recent advances in smart nanotechnologies are expanding the toolbox for brain interfacing, from wireless neuromodulation and high‐resolution sensing to targeted delivery within the central nervous system. By combining responsive nanomaterials with bioinspired design, these platforms enable multimodal interactions with neurons and glia, while also ...

Ferroelectric Devices for In‐Memory and In‐Sensor Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by biological systems, in‐memory and in‐sensor computing overcome von Neumann bottlenecks. Ferroelectric devices can mimic synaptic functions and sense stimuli like light or force, therefore are ideal for these paradigms. This review introduces the ferroelectric devices applied for in‐memory and in‐sensor computing, covering their structures ...
