Using the ASTER GDEM v.2 global digital elevation model to identify areas of possible activation of karst processes in the Arkhangelsk region (Russia)

open access: yesУчёные записки Казанского университета: Серия Естественные науки, 2021
The possibility of applying the method of detecting drainless depressions, which is used in hydrological correction of the digital elevation model, to identify areas of probable activation of the karst processes in the territory of the Arkhangelsk region

The Debt-Deflation Theory of Great Depressions: On Irving Fisher’s Use of Medical Metaphors

open access: yesŒconomia, 2013
Fisher’s early 1930s “debt-deflation theory of depressions” is characterized by one central epistemic feature: the role held by medical analogies throughout the description and analysis of economic booms and depressions—, both as epistemic analogy ...

Mega‐Depressions on the Cocos Ridge: Links Between Volcanism, Faults, Hydrothermal Circulation, and Dissolution

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2022
High‐resolution bathymetry and three‐dimensional seismic data along the Cocos Ridge reveal a 245 km2 field of ∼1–4 km in diameter seafloor depressions. The seafloor depressions are part of a two‐tiered honeycomb pattern.

The Impact of Digital Elevation Model Preprocessing and Detection Methods on Karst Depression Mapping in Densely Forested Dinaric Mountains

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
Karst landscapes have an abundance of enclosed depressions. Many studies have detected depressions and have calculated geomorphometric characteristics with computer techniques. These outcomes are somewhat determined by the methods and data used.

RURAL LANDSCAPES AND HUMAN PRESSURE IN THE SUBCARPATHIAN DEPRESSIONS OF OLTENIA. GEOGRAPHICAL CONSIDERATIONS [PDF]

open access: yesRevue Roumaine de Géographie, 2012
The rural landscape has been moderately changed by human intervention in the natural space. The country-side has the capacity to preserve and reconstruct the natural landscape because human pressure isless severe than in the urban area.

Regional Geomorphological Conditions Related to Recent Changes of Glacial Lakes in the Issyk-Kul Basin, Northern Tien Shan

open access: yesGeosciences, 2018
To assess the current state of glacial lakes, we examine the seasonal lake-area changes of 339 glacial lakes in the Teskey and Kungoy Ranges of the Issyk-Kul Basin, Kyrgyzstan, during 2013–2016 based on optical satellite images (Landsat7/ETM+ and 8/OLI).

Integrating Radarsat-2, Lidar, and Worldview-3 Imagery to Maximize Detection of Forested Inundation Extent in the Delmarva Peninsula, USA

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2017
Natural variability in surface-water extent and associated characteristics presents a challenge to gathering timely, accurate information, particularly in environments that are dominated by small and/or forested wetlands.

Enclosed Karst Depression Identification and Analysis for the Pumped Storage Power Station Reservoir Construction Using DEM

open access: yesGeofluids, 2023
An enclosed karst depression, a typical natural negative terrain, has the advantage of less engineering excavation when constructing a reservoir. In this study, the enclosed karst depression and its range identification technique have been developed ...
