The Effect of Sudden Depressurization on Pilots at Cruising Altitude
2012The standard flight level for commercial airliners is ∼12 km (40 kft; air pressure: ∼ 200 hPa), the maximum certification altitude of modern airliners may be as high as 43-45 kft. Loss of structural integrity of an airplane may result in sudden depressurization of the cabin potentially leading to hypoxia with loss of consciousness of the pilots ...

Experimental Study of Dust Behavior during Depressurization
Journal of Nuclear Science and Technology, 1992A small amount of graphite dust is present in the primary cooling system of a graphite, moderated gas-cooled reactor during normal operation and condensable fission products may be absorbed on the dust. Since it is possible that the fission products are released with dust under the accident conditions such as depressurization events, they have a ...

Depressurization Amorphization of Single-Crystal Boron Carbide
Physical Review Letters, 2009We report depressurization amorphization of single-crystal boron carbide (B4C) investigated by in situ high-pressure Raman spectroscopy. It was found that localized amorphization of B4C takes place during unloading from high pressures, and nonhydrostatic stresses play a critical role in the high-pressure phase transition.

Sediment–well interaction during depressurization
Acta Geotechnica, 2016Depressurization gives rise to complex sediment–well interactions that may cause the failure of wells. The situation is aggravated when high depressurization is imposed on sediments subjected to an initially low effective stress, such as in gas production from hydrate accumulations in marine sediments.

Impact of depressurizing rate on the porosity of aerogels
Microporous and Mesoporous Materials, 2012Abstract The effects of supercritical drying of diluted resorcinol–formaldehyde (RF) gels in CO 2 and in acetone are compared. We show that, for both processes, depressurizing rate of the autoclave after drying has a significant influence on the resultant shrinkage, and hence on resultant bulk density, surface area and pore volumes.

Venting During Satellite System Depressurization
26th International Communications Satellite Systems Conference (ICSSC), 2008Multilayer Insulation (MLI) blankets consist of closely spaced aluminum coated shields that are spaced apart to reduce heat transfer between the satellite system and the environment, particularly in vacuum. In space application, satellite systems and sub-systems are wrapped in MLI blankets to isolate them thermally from the environment and achieve ...

Depressurization to Mitigate Direct Containment Heating
Nuclear Technology, 1989This paper reports the capability to depressurize a three-loop pressurized water reactor during a station blackout sequence assessed using the SCDAP/RELAP5 computer code. During the initial calculations, failure of the pressurizer surge line from creep rupture was predicted prior to relocation of molten core material to the lower plenum.

Introducing a Depressurization Step in Online LCxSFC Modulation
Analytical ChemistryNew online LCxSFC valve technologies have recently been developed, based on the transfer of the first-dimension eluent either in the CO2 stream or in the cosolvent stream of the SFC dimension. While using the appropriate valve configuration greatly improved peak shapes, the reduction of the analysis time remained a challenge.

Volume 9: Advanced Methods of Manufacturing for Nuclear Reactors and Components; Severe Accidents and Mitigation Strategies for Beyond Design Basis Events
Abstract In this paper, based on the system analysis program, the AP1000 nuclear power plant is taken as the research object, and the AP1000 system analysis model is built. Taking the DVI pipeline break accident as the starting event, the depressurization strategy of the ADS is studied.

Effects of Depressurization Upon Largemouth Bass
North American Journal of Fisheries Management, 1983Abstract The effects of induced, rapid depressurization upon largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides), simulating conditions common to deep-water angling, were examined. Depths of 0.0, 9.1, 18.3, and 27.4 m were simulated in a large hyperbaric chamber. Statistical analyses indicated that significant mortality occurred when fish were depressurized from ...
