Deprivation Analysis in Declining Inner City Residential Areas: A Case Study From Izmir, Turkey. [PDF]

open access: yes
The aim of this paper is to examine the inner city decline in Turkey, by drawing on a field research, which was conducted in Izmir, Tuzcu District, in 2005. The paper places the inner city decline within the context of uneven development.

Graded‐Interface Dual‐Environment Hydrogel‐Polymer Electrolyte for Stabilized Anode and Sustained Cathode Kinetics in Aqueous Zinc‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A graded‐interface hydrogel‐polymer electrolyte decouples water activity to simultaneously stabilize the Zn anode and sustain cathode kinetics. The flexible design supports dendrite‐free cycling over 1600 h, high capacity in both MnO2 and V2O5 full cells, and stable pouch‐cell performance under bending, resolving the fundamental water conflict in ...

Unraveling the Electronic Structure of Silicon Vacancy Centers in 4H‐SiC

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The electronic structure of the silicon vacancy in 4H‐SiC is probed via transient absorption spectroscopy, uncovering previously inaccessible excited states of the quartet and doublet spin channels, including the V2' transition. In combination with theoretical analysis, a comprehensive picture of the electronic structure is established.

The Absence of Deprivation as a Measure of Social Well-Being. An Empirical Investigation [PDF]

open access: yes
The generalised Lorenz criterion is widely used for making welfare comparisons within and across countries on the basis of their income distributions. Experimental studies have challenged this way of proceeding by showing that the principle of transfers,

Microfabricated Anisotropic Myobundles for the Scalable Production of Cardiac Tissue Grafts

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the anisotropy of cardiac tissue remains an outstanding challenge in the field of cardiac tissue engineering. Here, we introduce an approach to generate anisotropic cardiac myobundles using cell‐adhesive, synthetic, electrospun fibers and stem cell‐derived cardiac fibroblasts.

Social Deprivation and Accessibility to Quiet Areas in Southampton [PDF]

open access: yes
It has been suggested that access to so-called “Quiet Areas” could be beneficial to subjects with health problems. A number of studies have also indicated a correlation between social deprivation and exposure to noisy environments.
