Stereoscopic 3D Technologies for Accurate Depth Tasks: A Theoretical and Empirical Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In the last decade an increasing number of application fields, including medicine, geoscience and bio-chemistry, have expressed a need to visualise and interact with data that are inherently three-dimensional.

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Resolving depth measurement ambiguity with commercially available range imaging cameras

open access: yes, 2010
Time-of-flight range imaging is typically performed with the amplitude modulated continuous wave method. This involves illuminating a scene with amplitude modulated light.

Color and Depth Priors in Natural Images

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2013
Natural scene statistics have played an increasingly important role in both our understanding of the function and evolution of the human vision system, and in the development of modern image processing applications. Because range (egocentric distance) is arguably the most important thing a visual system must compute (from an evolutionary perspective ...

Retrieving optical depth from shadows in orbiter images of Mars

open access: yes, 2011
International audience► The optical depth of the Martian atmosphere determines the brightness of shadows ► We estimate the optical depth from the brightness of shadows in orbiter images ► It is best to use images taken in colors between yellow and red ...

Extending AMCW lidar depth-of-field using a coded aperture

open access: yes, 2011
By augmenting a high resolution full-field Amplitude Modulated Continuous Wave lidar system with a coded aperture, we show that depth-of-field can be extended using explicit, albeit blurred, range data to determine PSF scale. Because complex domain range-
