A Robust and Fast Collision-Avoidance Approach for Micro Aerial Vehicles Using a Depth Sensor
Collision-avoidance is a crucial research topic in robotics. Designing a collision-avoidance algorithm is still a challenging and open task, because of the requirements for navigating in unstructured and dynamic environments using limited payload and ...

Adaptive fovea for scanning depth sensors [PDF]
Depth sensors have been used extensively for perception in robotics. Typically these sensors have a fixed angular resolution and field of view (FOV). This is in contrast to human perception, which involves foveating: scanning with the eyes’ highest angular resolution over regions of interest (ROIs). We build a scanning depth sensor that can control its

Underwater reconstruction using depth sensors [PDF]
In this paper we describe experiments in which we acquire range images of underwater surfaces with four types of depth sensors and attempt to reconstruct underwater surfaces. Two conditions are tested: acquiring range images by submersing the sensors and by holding the sensors over the water line and recording through water.

Nonparametric Calibration for Depth Sensors
RGBD sensors are commonly used in robotics applications for many purposes, including 3D reconstruction of the environment and mapping. In these tasks, uncalibrated sensors can generate poor quality results. In this paper we propose a quick and easy to use approach to estimate the undistortion function of RGBD sensors.

Addressing Privacy Concerns in Depth Sensors
Image-based assistive solutions raise concerns about the privacy of the individuals being monitored. The issue involves the situation when such technology is used in medical institutions to protect patients’ health and support the personnel. These devices are installed in facilities and process images that include personal and behavioral data during ...
