Earth's Infrared Background: A Physics‐Based Null Hypothesis for the Global‐Scale Subannual Variability of Outgoing Longwave Radiation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract Much of the outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) emitted to space can be described as a noisy “background” of random variability. A rigorous characterization of this background provides an objective null spectrum and enables the isolation of atmospheric phenomena within OLR observations, such as waves and storms.

Evaluation of a Decade of Methane Observations From a Tower Network in Indianapolis, Indiana

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract Methane (CH4) is a critical near‐term climate mitigation target, yet urban sources remain poorly constrained. Indianapolis hosts one of the world's longest and densest urban CH4 data sets, with continuous measurements from a tall‐tower network spanning more than a decade.

Coeducación: derecho humano

open access: yesPenínsula, 2015

Dark Land Surfaces Allow for Refugia That Could Support Photosynthetic Life on the Surface of Snowball Earth

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract Photosynthetic eukaryotic algae survived the Neoproterozoic Snowball Earth events, indicating that liquid‐water refugia existed somewhere on the surface. We examine the potential for refugia at the coldest time of a snowball event, before CO2 had risen and with high‐albedo ice on the frozen ocean, before it became darkened by dust deposition ...

Understanding the Response of the Quasi‐Biennial Oscillation to Carbon Dioxide and Sea Surface Temperature Increases in Aqua‐Planet Simulations

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract The Quasi‐Biennial Oscillation (QBO) of the tropical stratospheric zonal winds influences tracer transport, the stratospheric polar vortex, and extra‐tropical surface variability. However, the response of the QBO to increasing greenhouse gas concentrations is still uncertain.

Calibration of a Neural Network Ocean Closure for Improved Mean State and Variability

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract Global ocean models exhibit biases in the mean state and variability, particularly at coarse resolution, where mesoscale eddies are unresolved. To address these biases, parameterization coefficients are typically tuned ad hoc. Here, we formulate parameter tuning as a calibration problem using Ensemble Kalman Inversion (EKI).

Organ donation and family refusal. Bioethical reasons for a change

open access: yesRevista de Nefrología, Diálisis y Trasplante, 2018
Cases of next-of-kin veto, i.e., a family refusal to allow organs harvest contrary to donor wishes or when the law presumes consent, is a widespread practice that seriously harms thousands of people.
