Toward Co‐Designed Earth System Models: Reflecting End‐User Priorities in Local Applications From a Modeler's Perspective

open access: yesAGU Advances, Volume 6, Issue 6, December 2025.
Abstract Earth System Models (ESM) are crucial for quantifying climate impacts across Earth's interconnected systems and supporting science‐based adaptation and mitigation. However, not including end‐users, especially decision‐makers representing communities vulnerable to climate change, can limit model utility, increase epistemic risks, and lead to ...

Sources and Paths of the Lower Branch of the Abyssal Overturning Circulation

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 130, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Lagrangian analysis using the velocity field of the Southern Ocean State Estimate (SOSE) at 1/6° resolution quantifies the origin of the lower branch of the abyssal circulation south of 30°S. Antarctic waters from 65°S contribute 62% of the northward bottom flow at 30°S.

A Machine Learning Framework for Predicting Microphysical Properties of Ice Crystals From Cloud Particle Imagery

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 2, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract The microphysical properties of ice crystals are important because they significantly alter the radiative properties and spatiotemporal distributions of clouds, which in turn strongly affect Earth's climate. However, it is challenging to measure key properties of ice crystals, such as mass or morphological features. Here, we present a proof‐of‐

Quantifying the Impact of Solar Irradiance Uncertainty on Thermosphere‐Ionosphere Variability Using Ensemble Forecasts

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 23, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract This study investigates the sensitivity of the thermosphere and ionosphere to variations in solar spectral irradiance. Using data from the SDO and SORCE missions collected between 2010 and 2018, we quantified the variability and uncertainty of solar spectral irradiance across wavelengths from 0.1 to 190 nm and developed a data‐driven method to

Spain: Political Developments and Data in 2024

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Political Research Political Data Yearbook, Volume 64, Issue 1, Page 581-598, December 2025.
Abstract In Spain, the year 2024 was marked by both regional and European elections and an increasingly difficult political environment for the left‐wing governing coalition. The political agenda was dominated by these elections, an Amnesty Law, and several accusations of corruption around the governing Socialist Party (Partido Socialista Obrero ...
