Gold and Nickel Release From Gold‐Plated Earrings Under Cysteine‐Modified Artificial Sweat Conditions

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, EarlyView.
Gold release from gold‐plated earrings was investigated using a cysteine‐modified artificial sweat solution designed to reflect biochemically relevant conditions. This model enabled detection of low‐level gold release. Nickel release was quantified in parallel and was detected in all samples, frequently exceeding established regulatory limits. ABSTRACT

Significantly Different Prevalences of Contact Allergy to Hydroperoxides of Linalool and Limonene When Patch Testing With Different Patch Test Chambers

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, EarlyView.
Finn Chamber AQUA (FCA) detects significantly higher contact allergy prevalences to linalool hydroperoxides (7.0% vs. 5.1% FC) and limonene hydroperoxides (7.8% vs. 3.0% FC, 3.8% IQ) than Finn Chamber (FC) or IQ Ultra (IQ) in 629 dermatitis patients; chamber choice is therefore crucial for diagnostics.

Cytotoxic activity of invariant NKT cells in human allergic contact dermatitis

open access: yes, 2009
Cytotoxic activity of invariant NKT cells in human allergic contact dermatitis Background: The role of cytotoxicity of NKT-cells in the skin is not defined. There are two prototypic skin diseases in which epidermal Keratinocytes (KC) over-express CD1d, a

Metal Sensitization in Patients That Underwent Patch Test Pre and Post-Implant Exposure. [PDF]

open access: yesContact Dermatitis
Sensitization to metals was similar in pre‐implant and post‐implant patients. Women with jewellery allergy are at higher risk to have a patch test positive to metals. Post‐implant testing in case of contact dermatitis could be helpful to identify culprit allergens. ABSTRACT Background Sensitization to metals can cause allergic symptoms in subjects that

Mapping of Former Strategies and Future Needs for Regulatory Prevention of Skin Sensitization: Cosmetic Products

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, EarlyView.
This study identified multiple areas for improvement in the regulatory risk assessment process. Conclusions based on predictive sensitization data should be made with caution, read‐across data from known sensitizers should be utilized, and epidemiological and patient threshold data should be prioritized in decision‐making.

An emerging epidemic of allergic contact dermatitis due to phytonadione epoxide (oxidised vitamin K1)

open access: yes
Background: Reports of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) to phytonadione epoxide (PE) in cosmetics suggest that PE is as powerful a sensitiser as its parent compound phytonadione. Objective: To evaluate a case series of ACD to PE in Spain.
