Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) in children is underrecognized. It is often confused with antibody-mediated allergies such as urticaria or allergic rhinitis, but the mechanism in ACD involves T lymphocytes and not antibody. Surprisingly, sensitization to common allergens is likely to occur in infancy.

Allergic contact dermatitis caused by glucose sensors in type 1 diabetes patients
Contact Dermatitis, 2019Allergic contact dermatitis caused by glucose sensors has become an increasing problem. Contact allergies to isobornyl acrylate, colophonium, ethyl cyanoacrylate and N,N‐dimethylacrylamide have been reported.

The pathophysiology of ACD follows an intricate design and results in the characteristic, delayed inflammatory response. Although the astute physician may correctly diagnose ACD from its initial, classic history and presentation, alternative diagnoses should be considered and excluded.

Effective Use of Dupilumab in Managing Systemic Allergic Contact Dermatitis.
Dermatitis, 2018Allergic contact dermatitis to metals has become increasingly recognized in patients with endovascular implants. The ACD can lead to in-stent restenosis as well as a prominent eczematous reaction overlying the implant, often necessitating its removal. We

Mechanisms of Allergic Contact Dermatitis
2001Allergenicity depends on several factors determined by the very physicochemical nature of the molecules themselves, i.e., their capacity to penetrate the horny layer, lipophilicity, and chemical reactivity. The sensitizing property of the majority of contact allergens could be predicted from these characteristics (Patlewicz et al., Contact Dermatitis ...

Allergic contact dermatitis is a classic example of a cell mediated hypersensitivity reaction in the skin. This occurs as a result of xenobiotic chemicals penetrating into the skin, chemically reacting with self proteins, eventually resulting in a hapten-specific immune response.
