Furuncular myiasis secondary to Dermatobia hominis.

Dermatobia homininis is the most common cause of furuncular myiasis in Central and South America. It is diagnosed based on a history of travel to an endemic region and the characteristic cutaneous lesion. We present a 54-year-old patient who presented with both a travel history and cutaneous findings of furuncular myiasis.

Cutaneous myiasis caused by the human botfly Dermatobia hominis involves the infestation of tissue with dipterous fly larvae and is common in the neotropical region of the New World. We report a case of D. hominis imported in Switzerland from Costa Rica. In the past, various approaches to extract the botfly larva have been reported.

A case of cutaneous myiasis caused by larvae of Dermatobia hominis in a 39-year-old man is described. The infestation appeared during a trip to Peru and was characterized by an erythematous nodule localized on the right cheek. The nodule presented with a tiny central ulcer, from which a serous- hemorrhagic liquid was discharged.
