Plates of the epithecal bony shell of turtles of the family Dermochelyidae from the Middle Eocene (Lutetian) of the Ak-Kaya locality (Crimea, Ukraine) are described. This material, determined as Dermochelyidae indet., is the first reliable record of fossil dermochelyids in northern Eurasia.

Billfishes have long been known to impale a great variety of objects, but there are only two brief, obscure records of marine turtles being speared. Details are presented on these two, as well as on two other confirmed records; data from two additional unconfirmed records are also presented.

FAMILY DERMOCHELYIDAE Baur 1888, 422 (1 genus, 1 species). Many workers, including Bour & Dubois (1986) and the TTWG [van Dijk et al.)] 2014), erroneously credit Fitzinger 1843 for this family name. This matter is discussed in more detail in McCranie & Gutsche (2015). Dermochelys Blainville 1816, 119 (1 species) Dermochelys coriacea (Vandelli 1761, 2)

Post-Nesting Movements of Marine Turtles (Cheloniidae and Dermochelyidae) Tagged in the Guianas
Copeia, 1976Six recoveries of leatherback turtles tagged while nesting in the Guianas and caught in the United States, Mexico, Venezuela, and Ghana are among the longest recorded migrations for turtles of any kind. Seventy-two ridley turtles from the same nesting area were recaptured as far west as Barbados, Trinidad, and Isla Margarita, and as far east as Amapa ...

During the period from 1964 to 2007, three captures of the leatherback turtle Dermochelys coriacea were documented in the Pacific waters of the South Kuril Islands. All the captures occurred in the summer season at surface water temperatures of 11.0–12.2°C.

We report three new records of leatherback sea turtle, Dermochelys coriacea (Vandelli, 1761) recovered in February 2011 and in spring-summer 2016 in the Strait of Sicily. The individuals were handed over dead to the IZS of Palermo for necropsy. The first specimen measured 139 and 91 cm of CCL and CCW respectively and was found beached and alive but ...

Although several strandings of the leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea Vandelli, 1761) have been reported in Korea, its haplotype or mitogenome have yet to be investigated. Herein, we report the first complete mitogenome of D. coriacea. The 16,501-bp sequenced mitogenome is similar to those of other marine turtles, and the particular genetic ...
