A diploic dermoid involving the orbital plate of the frontal bone is described in a 52-year-old man. It presented proptosis, downward displacement of the globe and limitation of its movement while looking up. Its extension into the anterior cranial fossa was detected by injecting a radio-opaque material into the cyst.

Eight cases of spinal dermoids are presented. Four were in the cauda equina region, 2 were intramedullary, one was in the subdural space in the thoracic region, one was intramedullary and extended into the conus and cauda equina. Two patients had an associated dermal sinus. Intracapsular evacuation of the contents was the treatment of choice.

Dermoid cysts (dermoids) of the floor of the mouth
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1955Abstract Dermoid cysts of the floor of the mouth are discussed as to their embryology, development, and classification. A classification of these cysts, based on histopathologic findings, is presented in this article and it is suggested that the word dermoid be retained as a clinical term for all these developmental cysts of the floor of the mouth.

Only 7% of all dermoid cysts occur in the head and neck region and about a quarter of them are seen in the floor of mouth. Dermoids confined to the tongue are rare entities. Only 13 such cases, mostly in infants, have been reported in literature.

Facial dermoids are uncommon. We present the first case of a nasomaxillary dermoid since Bramann's original 1890 description. A dermoid sinus in this location further supports Bland-Sutton's hypothesis of ectodermal sequestration between embryologic facial prominences.

Thirty-two patients with nasal dermal sinuses and cysts were treated during the 10-year period from 1978 to 1987. These patients presented with midline cysts (N = 18) or sinus ostia (N = 14). Only 6 of the 32 patients manifested intracranial extension (19 percent).
