Balancing tracks and trees: Assessing railroad impact on Brazilian biodiversity

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 4, Page 1345-1356, July 2026.
The Brazilian West–East Integration Railway (FIOL) aims to boost the national economy by improving commodity transport; however, it crosses three of Brazil's most biodiverse and fragile regions: the Caatinga, Cerrado and Atlantic Forest. Using digitised plant records and land‐use analyses, our study reveals significant vegetation loss within the ...

Communication Partner Training Practices for People With Aphasia Among Latin American Speech and Language Therapists: A Survey of Implementation Barriers and Facilitators

open access: yesInternational Journal of Language &Communication Disorders, Volume 61, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Communication Partner Training (CPT) is an evidence‐based approach that enhances conversation and participation for people with aphasia (PwA) by involving their communication partners (CPs) in therapy. Pig Seminal Plasma Extracellular Vesicles Enhance Motility During Preservation of Epididymal Spermatozoa but Impair Capacitation and IVF Parameters

open access: yesAndrology, Volume 14, Issue 5, Page 1249-1260, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Extracellular vesicles (EVs) produced by accessory sex glands play a key role in sperm functionality, influencing motility, viability, acrosome integrity, metabolic activity, and capacitation. Most studies on the effects of EVs on spermatozoa have focused on ejaculated spermatozoa, which have already been exposed to their own native

Phenylalanine Versus Tyrosine (Pos. 367/332 in MCT1/MCT4) in the Substrate Binding Site Defines Affinity and Preferred Directionality of Human Monocarboxylate Transporters 1–4

open access: yesActa Physiologica, Volume 242, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Human monocarboxylate transporters 1–4, MCT, are key for the lactate/H+ exchange between glycolytic and oxidative cancer cells, white and red muscle fibers, or in the astrocyte‐neuron shuttle. The common MCT transport mechanism involves three conserved residues, that is, a substrate‐attracting Lys and a conformation‐locking Asp/Arg salt ...

Rapid generation of prion disease models using AAV‐delivered PrP variants in knockout mice

open access: yesBrain Pathology, Volume 36, Issue 4, July 2026.
We developed a rapid AAV‐based system to generate prion disease models in weeks rather than months. Following systemic AAV9P31 delivery of modified PrP to knockout mice, we achieved brain‐wide expression and successful propagation of both classical (RML) and atypical (GSS‐A117V) prion strains.
