Elevational variation in heart mass and suppression of hypoxia‐induced right ventricle hypertrophy in Andean leaf‐eared mice (Phyllotis)

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend In lowland mammals that ascend to high elevation, hypoxia‐induced changes in the pulmonary circulation can give rise to hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (HPH) and associated right‐ventricle (RV) hypertrophy. Andean mice with broad elevational ranges have greater heart mass relative to body size at higher elevations, but they ...

Environmental Justice in the Brazilian Coastal Food Systems: Policies, Institutions, and Knowledges on Small‐Scale Fishers and Energy Development

open access: yesWorld Food Policy, Volume 12, Issue 2, November 2026.
ABSTRACT This study explores environmental justice issues in coastal food systems, focusing on conflicts between small‐scale fisheries and the energy sector due to differing goals in managing food and energy sources. It does so by examining the interdependence between institutions, policies, and different types of knowledge; key elements in building ...

Effect of process conditions on the stability and physicochemical properties of green coffee oil Pickering emulsions stabilized with ZnO nanoparticles for quercetin-enhanced sunscreen formulations

open access: yesDiscover Nano
Solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the primary etiological factor in the development of several cutaneous malignancies, including carcinomas. In this context, the use of sunscreen formulations usually helps to prevent and reduce UV skin damage.

Digital Futures Between Participatory Digital Democracy and Participatory Digital Fascism

open access: yesPolicy &Internet, Volume 18, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper explores one of the defining political questions of the twenty‐first century: will digital technologies strengthen democracy or accelerate new forms of authoritarianism and fascism? Against the backdrop of platform capitalism, AI‐driven communication, surveillance infrastructures, disinformation and democratic crisis, the study asks

NbRD21 protease controls receptor kinase homeostasis in Nicotiana benthamiana

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 5, Page 2741-2752, September 2026.
Proteomic analysis revealed that receptor kinases (red) accumulate higher in rd21 knockout Nicotiana benthamiana plants. Summary RD21‐like proteases are papain‐like cysteine proteases with a C‐terminal granulin domain that are abundant and ubiquitous in angiosperms and have often been implicated in immunity.

Borylation of Aryl Halides Induced by Visible Light Under Open‐To‐Air Environment

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 15, 14 August 2026.
Borylation of aryl halides was successfully achieved by a sustainable protocol which involved a purely organic confined medium, visible light as energy source under an open‐to‐air environment. Experimental and computational investigations evidenced that the reaction occurred through the formation of a ground–state complex generated by hydrogen bonding.

Testing the Dry Refuge Model: Paleoecological Insights From Late Pleistocene Gomphotheres in Ecuador

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
We present paleontological evidence that may prove the Dry Refuge Model in Ecuador during the Late Pleistocene. ABSTRACT Paleoenvironmental records indicate that Neotropical regions near the Equator experienced reduced rainfall during the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). However, some records show conflicting environmental signals.
