Real‐time ancillary diagnostics for intraoperative assessment of intestinal viability in horses–looking for answers across species

open access: yesVeterinary Surgery, Volume 54, Issue 4, Page 648-664, May 2025.
Abstract Clinical intestinal viability assessment is associated with significant limitations, and there is an undisputable need for ancillary diagnostics during colic surgery. Human and companion animal surgeons struggle with similar intraoperative issues, yet there is little exchange between specialists.

FXa‐Responsive Hydrogels to Craft Corneal Endothelial Lamellae

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 10, April 15, 2025.
This study introduces a sacrificial, multicomponent biohybrid hydrogel system enabling stable scaffold‐free tissue engineering. Its efficacy is demonstrated through the ex vivo development, detachment, and transplantation of human corneal endothelial lamellae, achieving clinically relevant sizes for Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty.

Late spontaneous resolution of a double anterior chamber post deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A 31-year-old healthy male underwent deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty with big-bubble technique for treatment of keratoconus in his right eye. One week after surgery, he presented with detachment of the endothelium-Descemet complex with formation of a

Role of the Extracellular Matrix in Cancer: Insights into Tumor Progression and Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, Volume 8, Issue 2, February 2025.
The extracellular matrix (ECM) is pivotal in cancer progression, influencing tumor growth, metastasis, and therapy resistance. This paper explores ECM remodeling, highlighting components like collagens and proteoglycans, their impact on immune evasion, and emerging therapies targeting ECM mechanics and composition.

Subnuclear Phacoemulsification to Reduce Corneal Injury in Nuclear Cataract Surgery: Evidence From a Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Objects: To assess the safety and effectiveness of subnuclear phacoemulsification (SNP), a new technique for reducing corneal injury in nuclear cataract surgery. Methods: This randomized controlled trial (RCT) was designed in March 2020 and carried it out from April 1 to September 30, 2020, including a 3 months’ follow‐up.

Comparison and Correlation of the Donor–Recipient Interface Changes and Visual Outcomes Between nDSEK and DSEK

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Purpose: This study aimed to compare the donor–recipient interface changes between non‐Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty (nDSEK) and Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK) and assess their correlation with the postoperative best spectacle‐corrected visual acuity (BCVA).

Impact of Intraoperative Descemet Membrane Perforations on Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty Outcomes

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Purpose: To analyse the outcomes of deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) in cases with intraoperative Descemet membrane (DM) perforation. Methods: This is a literature review reporting outcomes of DALK with DM perforation. Studies where DALK was performed in the event of intraoperative DM perforation were included.
