Descending mediastinitis [PDF]

open access: yesAsian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2012
We studied 13 patients with mediastinal abscesses caused by oropharyngeal infections, who presented between April 2007 and June 2011. All patients were operated on after maxillofacial and ear, nose and throat surgeons had treated the primary source and drained all collections in the neck. Thoracic surgery was performed in the same session.

Descendants in Increasing Trees [PDF]

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2006
Simple families of increasing trees can be constructed from simply generated tree families, if one considers for every tree of size $n$ all its increasing labellings, i.$\,$e. labellings of the nodes by distinct integers of the set $\{1, \dots, n\}$ in such a way that each sequence of labels along any branch starting at the root is increasing.

Descending serotonergic controls regulate inflammation-induced induced mechanical sensitivity and methyl-CpG-binding protein 2 phosphorylation in the rat superficial dorsal horn [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background: Regulation of pain states is, in part, dependent upon plastic changes in neurones within the superficial dorsal horn. There is also compelling evidence that pain states are under the control of descending projections from the brainstem. While

Waiting to Descend [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Perinatal Education, 2010
A second-time mother uses a combination of comfort measures and hypnosis for childbirth to achieve a medication-free birth. In the hospital, her use of hypnosis and the posterior position of her cervix made it appear that she was not dilated. After she was fully dilated, pushing took several hours. Throughout the birth, the mother remained calm and did

An unusual cause of acute lower gastrointestinal bleeding: lung adenocarcinoma metastasis to the descending colon

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2017
Key Clinical Message Lung adenocarcinoma with symptomatic GI metastasis occurs seldom in everyday clinical practice. However, as diagnostic modalities, therapeutic interventions, and supportive care for cancer evolve, it is likely that the clinician ...

Analysis of bronchovascular patterns in the left superior division segment to explore the relationship between the descending bronchus and the artery crossing intersegmental planes

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2023
BackgroundA comprehensive understanding of the anatomical variations in the pulmonary bronchi and arteries is particularly essential to the implementation of safe and precise left superior division segment (LSDS) segmentectomy.

Parallel pathways for sound processing and functional connectivity among layer 5 and 6 auditory corticofugal neurons

open access: yeseLife, 2019
Cortical layers (L) 5 and 6 are populated by intermingled cell-types with distinct inputs and downstream targets. Here, we made optogenetically guided recordings from L5 corticofugal (CF) and L6 corticothalamic (CT) neurons in the auditory cortex of ...

Inter-strain differences of serotonergic inhibitory pain control in inbred mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: Descending inhibitory pain control contributes to the endogenous defense against chronic pain and involves noradrenergic and serotonergic systems.
