PIEZO Force Sensing in Vascular Biology: An Explosion of New Knowledge, Concepts and Opportunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 41, November 6, 2025.
Knowledge of the remarkable mechanical force sensing and electrically transducing PIEZO1 and PIEZO2 channels is discussed across vascular biology and its cell types from the embryonic to adult stages in health, disease and old age. How the channels work, relate to other factors and signal for tissue responses to mechanical forces is debated.

AP2M1 Is a Candidate Gene for Microcephaly and Intellectual Disability in 3q27.1 Deletions

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, Volume 197, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Deletions of the 3q26.33q27.2 region appear to correlate with a distinct phenotype, although there are few reported cases. Here, we present seven previously unreported individuals carrying de novo 3q27 deletions (under 5 Mb), which include the AP2M1 (adaptor‐related protein complex 2, mu‐1 subunit) gene and summarize data from 12 previously ...

Prevalence and Prognostic Impact of Coronary Chronic Total Occlusions in Patients With Cardiogenic Shock

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 106, Issue 5, Page 2805-2815, November 1, 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Mortality in patients with cardiogenic shock (CS) remains high despite advanced treatment strategies in CS patients, underlining the need for the identification of predictors of prognosis in CS patients. Therefore, the present study investigates the prognostic impact of coronary chronic total occlusions (CTO) in patients with CS ...

Coronary Ectasia and ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction Patients: Does Atherosclerosis Influence Periprocedural Management and Long‐Term Prognosis?

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 106, Issue 5, Page 2906-2912, November 1, 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) influences procedural outcomes in the context of ST‐elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI); however, its relationship with atherosclerotic coronary artery disease (ACAD) remains unclear. Aims This study aimed to compare clinical and procedural characteristics, as well as outcomes, in patients with ...

Impact of Epicardial plaQUe Composition and geomeTry on Coronary hEmodynamics and Flow in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease (iEquate)

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 106, Issue 5, Page 3034-3046, November 1, 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Invasive coronary physiology including fractional flow reserve (FFR), instantaneous wave‐free ratio (iFR), and coronary flow reserve (CFR) are guideline‐endorsed tools to guide the management of coronary artery disease (CAD). Complex factors impact and confound these assessments, and discordance between modalities complicates ...

Long‐Term Survival After Post‐Myocardial Infarction Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) Closure, Multiple Percutaneous Coronary Interventions and Edge‐to‐Edge Repair

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 106, Issue 6, Page 3349-3354, November 15, 2025.
ABSTRACT This reports a case of a female aged 65 who presented in cardiogenic shock secondary to an inferior ST‐elevation myocardial infarction and was diagnosed with a post‐infarction ventricular septal defect (VSD) and was also found to have severe mitral valve regurgitation. She was not surgically operable, so underwent percutaneous VSD repair. Over
