ECOSTRESS‐derived semi‐arid forest temperature and evapotranspiration estimates demonstrate drought and thinning impacts

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that ECOSTRESS lands surface temperature (LST) data are sensitive to forest thinning, regional drought, and their interaction. Consistent with high‐resolution UAV images, ECOSTRESS LST data indicate thinned forest had significantly greater temperature across years.

Examining the Affordances of Engineering and Curricular Supports for Learning Among Emerging Bilingual Elementary Afterschool Students

open access: yesScience Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Engineering design provides students with unique opportunities to engage with disciplinary knowledge and practices by engaging with technologies and each other through the design process. In this paper, we identify how the co‐construction of an engineering afterschool club culture supported students’ engagement in epistemic practices of ...

Amorphous Hydrogenated Silicon Carbide Interlayers: Chemical, Optical, and Tribological Behavior for Improving Adhesion of Carbon‐Based Films to Ferrous Alloy

open access: yesSurface and Interface Analysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Diamond‐like carbon thin films have been gaining attention in the last years due to their unique properties, such as low friction coefficient and high wear resistance. However, the lack of adhesion between DLC coatings and ferrous alloys complicates their wider industrial application.

Preliminary results of the Vega 1 and Vega 2 optical investigation of aerosol in the atmosphere of Venus at 30-60 KM [PDF]

open access: yes
Aerosol concentration profiles were measured by an aerosol spectrometer above the landing sites of the Vega 1 and Vega 2 landers. Approximately the same altitude zones were found as in previous experiments: a three-layered basic cloud cover, an ...
