Simulation of decelerating landing approaches on an externally blown flap STOL transport airplane [PDF]
A fixed-base simulator program was conducted to define the problems and methods for solution associated with performing decelerating landing approaches on a representative STOL transport having a high wing and equipped with an external-flow jet flap in ...

Beyond feasibility filters: How expertise heterogeneity enables innovation recognition
Abstract Research Summary Organizations often struggle to identify promising innovations that balance novelty and feasibility in multidisciplinary domains, yet how does evaluator expertise heterogeneity shape these assessments? This study examines how evaluator expertise influences innovation evaluation through a field experiment with National ...

In-trail dynamics of multiple CDTI-equipped aircraft queues [PDF]
One of the potential problems of in-trail self-spacing with a Cockpit Display of Traffic Information (CDTI) is whether dynamic oscillations would occur in a queue of aircraft flying an approach, similar to the ""accordion'' effect seem with the queue of ...

Evidence for Drop‐Like Nuclear Deformation in Sheared Endothelial Monolayers
Physiological shear stress smoothens endothelial monolayers by selectively eliminating less‐spread cells with tall, wrinkled nuclei. Nuclear volume and surface area remain constant, consistent with drop‐like deformation governed by geometric constraints.

Critical soft landing technology issues for future US space missions [PDF]
A programmatic need for research and development to support parachute-based landing systems has not existed since the end of the Apollo missions in the mid-1970s. Now, a number of planned space programs require advanced landing capabilities for which the
