Facets of a mixed-integer bilinear covering set with bounds on variables

open access: yes, 2019
We derive a closed form description of the convex hull of mixed-integer bilinear covering set with bounds on the integer variables. This convex hull description is determined by considering some orthogonal disjunctive sets defined in a certain way.

Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

miRNA‐29 regulates epidermal and mesenchymal functions in skin repair

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
miRNA‐29 inhibits cell‐to‐cell and cell‐to‐matrix adhesion by silencing mRNA targets. Adhesion is controlled by complex interactions between many types of molecules coded by mRNAs. This is crucial for keeping together the layers of the skin and for regenerating the skin after wounding.

A new two-moment bulk stratiform cloud microphysics scheme in the Community Atmosphere Model, version 3 (CAM3). Part I: Description and numerical tests

open access: yes, 2008
A new two-moment stratiform cloud microphysics scheme in a general circulation model is described. Prognostic variables include cloud droplet and cloud ice mass mixing ratios and number concentrations.

A polyphasic strategy incorporating genomic data for the taxonomic description of novel bacterial species.

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2014
Currently, bacterial taxonomy relies on a polyphasic approach based on the combination of phenotypic and genotypic characteristics. However, the current situation is paradoxical in that the genetic criteria that are used, including DNA-DNA hybridization,

Spot‐14 and its paralog Spot‐14R regulate expression of metabolic and thermogenic pathway genes in murine brown and beige adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Spot‐14 and Spot‐14R play distinct roles in regulating metabolism in brown and beige adipocytes. While both influence lipid and glucose pathways, Spot‐14 uniquely controls thermogenic gene expression. This dual regulation balances energy storage and heat production, highlighting potential therapeutic targets for obesity and metabolic disorders. Spot 14

Present and Future Aspects of CP Violation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
This series of five lectures describes aspects of CP violation, emphasizing its description within the standard electroweak model. After discussing the kaon system, the only place in which CP violation has been seen so far, we turn to the leading ...

Stochastic Chemical Reactions in Micro-domains

open access: yes, 2004
Traditional chemical kinetics may be inappropriate to describe chemical reactions in micro-domains involving only a small number of substrate and reactant molecules.
