Predictive mapping of plant diversity in an arid mountain environment (Gebel Elba, Egypt)
In this paper, we have created the first model‐based plant diversity maps for the arid mountain Gebel Elba. We found that topographical parameters and plant productivity played important roles in explaining predictive models of alpha and beta diversity on the northern slopes of this mountain.

Due to the complex geographical situation in China, in this paper, the area of land desertification is 98.5% of the total land desertification area in China. Based on the measured data of GIS and remote sensing images, we will discuss the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of land desertification in China by calculating standardized ...

Long−Term Fertilization Increased Nitrous Oxide Emissions from Croplands Reclaimed from Desert
Few studies have investigated how the reclamation of the desert to cropland affects soil nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions. A study site was initiated in 2005 at the southern Taklimakan Desert by establishing four fields along the desert−oasis ecotone. Three

Numerical simulations of the impacts of mountain on oasis effects in arid Central Asia [PDF]
The oases in the mountain-basin systems of Central Asia are extremely fragile. Investigating oasis effects and oasis-desert interactions is important for understanding the ecological stability of oases.

Groundwater depth alters soil nutrient concentrations in different environments in an arid desert
Soil nutrients are vital for plant growth and survival and present a crucial role in terrestrial function and productivity. However, little is known about the effect mechanism of groundwater table on soil nutrients in an arid desert ecological system ...

The spatio-temporal variability of groundwater depth in a typical desert-oasis ecotone
Eight groundwater observation wells were installed along the river plain, where the landscapes varied from floodplain, to oasis farmland, to desert-oasis ecotone to desert, in a typical desert-oasis ecotone in northwestern China. Ten years of data were used to analyze temporal and spatial changes in the groundwater depth.
