Climatic Aridity in the Deserts of the Middle East

The deserts in the countries concerned occupy the arid belt extending from North Africa to central Asia. The map in Fig. 1 (Chap. 2) shows the 100 and 249 mm isohyets (Blake et al. 1987). The area receiving less than 100 mm annually is vast and covers almost the whole of Egypt, Qatar, and Bahrain.
