Resource Concentration Modulates the Fate of Dissimilated Nitrogen in a Dual-Pathway Actinobacterium

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Respiratory ammonification and denitrification are two evolutionarily unrelated dissimilatory nitrogen (N) processes central to the global N cycle, the activity of which is thought to be controlled by carbon (C) to nitrate (NO3−) ratio. Here we find that

Fine root decomposition and nutrient release of different age Caragana intermedia plantation in alpine sandy land

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
A better understanding of fine root decomposition and nutrient release characteristics is essential for accurate assessment and prediction of nutrient cycling in plantation ecosystems. Decomposition bag method was used to study the fine root (1 mm< D ≤

The epithelial barrier theory proposes a comprehensive explanation for the origins of allergic and other chronic noncommunicable diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Exposure to common noxious agents (1), including allergens, pollutants, and micro‐nanoplastics, can cause epithelial barrier damage (2) in our body's protective linings. This may trigger an immune response to our microbiome (3). The epithelial barrier theory explains how this process can lead to chronic noncommunicable diseases (4) affecting organs ...

From omics to AI—mapping the pathogenic pathways in type 2 diabetes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Integrating multi‐omics data with AI‐based modelling (unsupervised and supervised machine learning) identify optimal patient clusters, informing AI‐driven accurate risk stratification. Digital twins simulate individual trajectories in real time, guiding precision medicine by matching patients to targeted therapies.

The critical role of DNA damage‐inducible transcript 4 (DDIT4) in stemness character of leukemia cells and leukemia initiation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Stemness properties, including quiescence, self‐renewal, and chemoresistance, are closely associated with leukemia relapse. Here, we demonstrate that DNA damage‐inducible transcript 4 (DDIT4) is induced in the hypoxic bone marrow niche and is essential for maintaining the stemness of AML1‐ETO9a leukemia cells.

Effect of plant spacing on the soil properties and fertility of Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica plantations in sandy land of the agro-pastoral ecotone in northern China

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science
Duolun County in Inner Mongolia, a typical agro-pastoral ecotone, serves as an important ecological barrier in northern China. To combat windblown sand and land degradation, the government has established extensive P. sylvestris var.

Water Addition Prolonged the Length of the Growing Season of the Desert Shrub Nitraria tangutorum in a Temperate Desert

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
Climate models often predict that more extreme precipitation events will occur in arid and semiarid regions, where plant phenology is particularly sensitive to precipitation changes.

Matrix: a complex amalgam of structures and functions in tumor microenvironment

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The matrix is a dynamic, intricate three‐dimensional mesh of biomolecules with both structural and functional properties. This review deals with the complexity of this ‘molecular amalgam’ in the tumor microenvironment and highlights its importance in the maintenance and evolution of tumors by describing certain matrix biomolecules, such as ...

Deciphering the Origin of Higher Shell Coordination on Single Iron Catalysts for Resilient Modulating Persulfate Oxidation Into Singlet Oxygen Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
This study reveals that higher shell S coordination can effectively modulate the spin state of FeN4 site via long‐range electronic interactions, giving rise to the oriented generation of singlet oxygen from peroxymonosulfate activation. Abstract Precise manipulation of coordination structure of single‐atom sites and establishment of schematic ...
