Camouflaged as degraded wax: hygroscopic aerosols contribute to leaf desiccation, tree mortality, and forest decline

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2018
Some 40 years ago, air pollution caused widespread forest decline in Central Europe and eastern North America. More recently, high levels of tree mortality worldwide are thought to be driven by rising temperatures and increasing atmospheric drought.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

A prototype liquid desiccant dehumidification system

open access: yes, 2007
Many agricultural food products undergo some form of drying before they are available for purchase. This paper describes the progress of a liquid desiccant solar crop drying system (LDSCD), which is currently being tested in Queensland, Australia.

Experiments on sorption hysteresis of desiccant materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Solid desiccant cooling systems take advantage of solar energy for air conditioning. The process involves passing air through a desiccant bed for drying and subsequent evaporative cooling to provide the air conditioning. The desiccant is then regenerated

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Internally cooled desiccant wheel and desiccant wheel based air-conditioning system

open access: yes, 2019
This thesis aims to improve the dehumidification performance of conventional desiccant wheels by constructing an internally cooled desiccant wheel, in which cooling water was brought into the supply section of the wheel to change the dehumidification ...

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Incidence of cooling air flow and chiller COP on the performance of an unconventional desiccant-based HVAC system

open access: yes, 2013
Nell'ambito del Convegno internazionale “Microgen 3” (The 3rd International Conference on Microgeneration and Related Technologies), Napoli, Italia, 15-17 Aprile 2013, F. Minichiello ha presentato l’articolo scientifico “Incidence of cooling air flow and

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

A DESICCANT TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTIONAL MODULE

open access: yes, 2007
Desiccant technology is a category of HVAC equipment used for dehumidification. A desiccant material is a material that attracts and holds large amounts of water vapor.
