Review of Dew Point Evaporative Cooling Technology for Air Conditioning Applications

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Indirect evaporative cooling has the potential to significantly improve the natural environment. It follows from a significant reduction in electricity consumption in the hot period, and hence lower operating costs for cooling systems.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Summer period analysis of the rotary desiccant - hybrid cooling system combined with solid oxide fuel cells using human waste fuel

open access: yesCleaner Engineering and Technology
This paper proposes and simulates a desiccant air cooling system integrated with a vapor compression cooling unit and a heat recovery unit for an office building in Çanakkale, Turkey, during the summer season. The required electrical energy for equipment

Experimental investigation of a novel desiccant cooling system

open access: yesEnergy and Buildings, 2010
Desiccant based air conditioning systems are a suitable way to improve indoor air quality due to its superior humidity control. In this study, a novel desiccant based air conditioning system is designed and tested experimentally to improve the indoor air quality and reduce energy consumption.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Solar Desiccant Cooling System for a Commercial Building in Kuwait’s Climatic Condition

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
The use of air conditioning in buildings to provide a comfortable environment accounts for up to 75% of the electricity consumed in Kuwait for the hot season from April through to the end of October. The widespread adoption of air conditioning systems in

Experimental exergoeconomic assessment of a desiccant cooling system

open access: yesEnergy Conversion and Management, 2013
Abstract Desiccant cooling has become a well established technology in most parts of the world, especially recently in Turkey. The increased growth of the technology was caused by the contribution of refrigerants used in conventional cooling systems to the depletion of the ozone layer.
