The Layout and Size of an Early Pre‐Pottery Neolithic B Small Settlement Revealed by Geophysical Prospection at Harbetsuvan Tepesi in Southeastern Anatolia

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In Upper Mesopotamia, the transition from the Pre‐Pottery Neolithic A (PPNA) to Pre‐Pottery Neolithic B (PPNB) period, ca. 10 800–10 600 cal. BP, is marked by a series of changes in chipped stone industries, architectural forms, symbolic objects, regional distribution of settlements and long‐distance exchange networks among others.

Aerobic power, huddling and the efficiency of torpor in the South American marsupial, Dromiciops gliroides. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
During periods of cold, small endotherms depend on a continuous supply of food and energy to maintain euthermic body temperature (T(b)), which can be challenging if food is limited. In these conditions, energy-saving strategies are critical to reduce the

Game‐based learning for undergraduate consolidation: A qualitative study of how game‐based learning provides much more than knowledge acquisition

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract Game‐based learning (GBL) is increasingly used in medical education to supplement traditional didactic learning methods. Adult learners in particular may benefit from GBL, given the autonomous and iterative nature of a well‐designed educational game.

Listening to young children with disabilities: Experiences of quality in mainstream primary education

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract All children should have access to quality education through a child‐centred pedagogy. An inclusive, child‐centred pedagogy uses a strength‐based view of children that recognises each child as unique and competent, providing children with multiple opportunities to explore and learn at their own pace.

Engineered Bacterial Ligand From Streptococcus pneumoniae on Macroporous Resins for Selective Affinity Capture of Secretory IgA

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) is a promising emerging biopharmaceutical candidate, but it currently lacks a standardized platform for purification. To address this, a novel affinity chromatography resin was developed by immobilizing protein variants of the Streptococcus pneumoniae surface protein, SpsA, as an affinity ligand.

Host, vector, and parasite dynamics: exploring intrinsic and extrinsic factors shaping tick‐borne filarial nematode transmission

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tick‐borne filarial nematodes are a complex and understudied group of parasites that rely on ticks for transmission in vertebrates. This review examines how intrinsic and extrinsic factors may influence the successful transmission of filarial nematodes in tick vectors, drawing insights from extensively studied haematophagous dipteran vector ...

Performance Characteristics of Solid-Desiccant Evaporative Cooling Systems

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
Air conditioning accounts for up to 50% of energy use in buildings. Increased air-conditioning-system installations not only increase total energy consumption but also raise peak load demand.

Analytical Solution of Conservation Equations Governing Desiccant Wheel

open access: yesUniversity of Khartoum Engineering Journal, 2022
The objective of this work is to provide analytical solution of the conservation equations governing the desiccant wheel. The conservation equations describing the moisture exchange between wheel matrix and airflows are complicated partial differential equations (PDEs). This complication is brought about by space and time variations of moisture content.
