Comparative analysis of immune responses in ovipositing and non‐ovipositing females of European earwig Analyse comparative de la réponse immunitaire avant et après la ponte chez le forficule européen

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, EarlyView.
Oviposition and care decrease the total haemocyte concentration. Oviposition and care affect haemocyte type proportions. Serratia marcescens challenge does not affect the immune cell parameters. Abstract Reproduction and immunity are essential biological processes that compete for resources and energy.

Animal Segregation: The Biopolitics of Concentrated Pig Farming

open access: yesTijdschrift voor Economische en Sociale Geografie, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper explores the possibility to think through the concept of animal segregation to understand the more‐than‐human geographies of livestock animals. By redirecting the analytical tools for studying the spatial separation of humans to the segregation of animals, this paper contributes to understanding the geographical processes of ...

Using unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to improve access to blood in low‐ and middle‐income countries: Current challenges and opportunities

open access: yesVox Sanguinis, EarlyView.
Abstract Blood transfusion is life‐saving for patients in emergencies, but low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs) often face a severe shortage of banked blood. Establishing blood banks in rural areas presents substantial logistical and economic challenges for many LMICs.

Myocellular adaptations to short‐term weighted wheel‐running exercise are largely conserved during C26‐tumour induction in male and female mice

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigated whether performing a translatable murine model of concurrent training after tumour induction affects adaptations in juvenile male and female tumour‐bearing mice. Male and female Balb/c mice were injected bilaterally with colon‐26 adenocarcinoma (C26) cells or PBS at 8 weeks of age.

Sex‐dependent effects of a high‐fat diet‐induced obesity model on cerebrovascular health and brain metabolism

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Mid‐life obesity is a major risk factor for neurodegenerative diseases, with mitochondrial and cerebrovascular dysfunction considered key mediators. Lysine acetylation is a reversible post‐translational modification that regulates several mitochondrial metabolic and biochemical processes.

Comparative study of different desiccant wheel designs

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2011
Desiccant/evaporative cooling systems offer an environmentally benign alternative to conventional vapor compression chillers. A desiccant wheel is the heart of this heat driven cooling system and it uses a solid desiccant for dehumidification with silica gel being the most widely used.

A mathematical model for predicting the performance of a compound desiccant wheel (A model of compound desiccant wheel)

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2010
Abstract A mathematical model for predicting the performance of novel silica gel haloid compound desiccant wheel is established. Both the gas side resistance and the solid side resistance are considered in the model. It is found that the results of this model agree better to the experiments than the results of a former model which does not take the ...

Experimental investigations on desiccant wheels

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2012
Experimental investigations on several commercially available and newly fabricated rotors are conducted in two different laboratories to evaluate performance trends. Experimental uncertainties are analysed and the parameters determining the rotor performance are investigated.
