Desiccation tolerance [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Despite the fundamental significance of desiccation in determining the distributions and activities of living organisms, there is virtually no insight as to the state of the cytoplasm of an air-dried, or even a wet, cell.

Desiccation cracking of soils [PDF]

open access: yes
The scope of this paper is to present the global mechanisms of soil desiccation, including drying shrinkage and cracking. The paper first reviews the basic processes that are beneath the word “desiccation”.

Sustainable recovery of soil desiccation in semi-humid region on the Loess Plateau

open access: yes, 2011
Soil desiccation desiccation is one of the key factors to influence the sustainable development of crop production on the Loess Plateau of China. Depletion of soil water during growth period and its recovery in the fallow period is influenced by the ...

Desiccation Patterns of Blood Sessile Drops

open access: yes, 2018
The formation of desiccation patterns in a biological sessile drop is a natural and ubiquitous phenomenon that involves complex physical/chemical/biological processes. This thesis studies the desiccation patterns of blood sessile drops, i.e., whole blood

Desiccation cracking of soils

open access: yes, 2008
Desiccation cracking of soils is of great importance in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering. In many circumstances it is the cause of damages in earthen and soil supported structures.

Soil desiccation occurrence an its impact on forest vegetation in the Loess Plateau of China

open access: yes, 2007
Soil desiccation is a major issue limiting development and sustainability of forest vegetation in the Loess Plateau of China. Better understanding of the mechanisms of soil desiccation in the Loess Plateau can help scientists and forest managers improve ...

Desiccation-inducible genes are related to N2-fixing system under desiccation in a terrestrial cyanobacterium

open access: yes, 2012
Terrestrial cyanobacteria have various desiccation-tolerant systems, which are controlled by desiccation tolerance-related genes. Anabaena (Nostoc) sp.

Effects of desiccation and CO2 concentrations on emersed photosynthesis in Porphyra haitanensis (Bangiales, Rhodophyta), a species farmed in China

open access: yes, 2002
The effects on photosynthesis of CO, and desiccation in Porphyra haitanensis were investigated to establish the effects of increased atmospheric CO2 on this alga during emersion at low tides.

Soil desiccation for Loess soils on natural and regrown areas

open access: yes, 2008
In the Loess Plateau, soil desiccation has become a serious problem for forest and grass vegetation. Soil desiccation leads to the formation of a dried soil layer (DSL).

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.
